January My Monthly Hero Countdown: Idea #6 + Giveaway!

We are back with another look at the January My Monthly Hero release! The kit will be available on Monday, January 9th at 1pm eastern/10am pacific. We’ll be sharing ideas for using the main kit and the optional add-on products all weekend long, so stay tuned for more inspiration! One of the things I love about this month’s kit is how versatile it is – the flowers can be used a solid or outline layers, or double up on top of each other! For today’s pair of cards, I layered up my flowers, but I did it using the same ink color for both layers.

For this first card, I used Stone Wash, Orchid, Passion Flower, and Soft Olive on some light purple paper.

With the shadow inks, I find it works well to let the first, solid layer sit for awhile, to prevent the second, outlines layer from blending in with it. However, I found the hybrid inks dry quick enough to allow for immediately stamping the second layer and not losing its definition.

I wanted to keep these cards easy to mail, so I topped both of them off with a white heat embossed sentiment, die cut out of black cardstock using a Circle Infinity die.

For my second card, I was totally inspired by THIS pin, and I used Pale Tomato, Fresh Peach, Mint Julep, Forever Green, Pine, Soft Vanilla and Soft Apricot to create my florals on some pink paper.

I heat embossed my second sentiment using gold embossing powder.

Using the same ink when layering images will give you different results depending on your ink and paper, but it’s a great way to stretch your ink stash, and it also makes picking the colors a little easier. ;)
