Creating Stencils with Die Cuts

Hello there, Creatives! It's Janette here today to share a little about stretching your dies by creating stencils. Dies can be pricey, so making the most of the investment makes my crafty heart smile!

To begin cut the Flower Garden Fancy Die from a masking paper or large full stick postie notes. Place mask onto A2 sized (4 1/4" x 5 1/2") panel of Hero Hues Arctic cardstock. Then ink blend with Mint Julep and Indigo, leaving a highlight in the middle for a glowing effect.

Carefully peel away masking and color in a few flowers and leaves with colored pencils. Be selective or color them all, your choice!

Die cut Hello Message in Hero Hues Dove White. Coat bottom half of Hello with liquid Precision Glue. I used one of those old triangle shaped makeup sponges (that's a blast from the past, right?!). Sprinkle on chunky Snowfall Glitter and then adhere sentiment to slightly trimmed top half of a card base. By trimming off just a smidge, the white strip across the bottom of panel from the back side of the card shows. A fun little surprise detail!

We are in the final week of the National Craft Month celebrations. The theme? Anything Goes! Participate for your chance to win prizes! You can find out more about the challenge HERE.

Thank you for joining me today!

Jan Hansen,

I LOVE this fancy die and I’ve found one person who has made a card using the Flower Garden Fancy Die (Jennifer McGuire) but I would love to see additional ideas on how I can use that die in different greeting cards. I’m going to try the stencil card for sure! I have a Cuttlebug and I found that I needed to run my paper backward and forwards several times in order to get a good cut. Its an absolutely beautiful die.

GLenda M Sultan,

You are so clever. I like how you colored in just a few flowers.

Lauren Z.,

Great idea to use dies as stencils. I’ll have to try it. This is a very pretty card. I love the glitter on the bottom of “hello”.

Barb Oliver,

lovely card, Janette! Great way to stretch the use of your dies. Thanks for the inspiration!

Carole Lohr,

What great idea with succinct and easy instructions. A helpful post😀.
