DIY with Debi: Lemony Rosette Decorations

Oh Happy DIY Day friends! I’m Debi Adams and I’m back again with another Do It Yourself project. I am thinking, hoping, praying for sunnier days ahead. No matter where we all are at, it is my hope to bring a little light into your stay-at-home situation. I started off thinking I would love to make something party-ish that is quick and easy and though I did complete that task, I got lost in the process (always enjoyable) and the next thing you know, I had made a bit more than intended. But for today, I am only going to talk about embellishing party rosettes. Oh and hey, at the end, I give you a cheater’s tip. :)

For today’s feature I am using Zest Wishes and Zest Wishes Frame Cuts. They are fun little images that I thought were perfect for this project. So many ways to create rosettes but I am showing you just one way that I make them. Hero Arts Dove White cardstock is a perfect paper to use for the base but if this is the first time you are making a rosette, you may want to play with copy paper as it is very thin and easy to pleat. Once you have the process down, move onto cardstock because it will hold up longer. For the main rosette, cut your paper to be 3 3/4” x 11”. You will need three of these strips. If you choose to make larger rosettes or smaller ones, you will need to increase/decrease the amount of strips used. More strips for a larger rosette, less for a smaller one. Stamp your images onto the 3 papers using Intense Black Ink.

Color as desired.

Score all three papers every 1/2” using a scoring tool and score board. You can score 1/4” too but it takes a while to fan fold them and they lay a tad flatter so I went with the larger measurement.

Attach the papers together so they overlap by 1/2” and form a straight line. Accordion pleat the line of paper. When complete, gather one side of the pleated ends together tightly and run a line of hot glue across the ends. Allow to cool. See photo.

The rosette should look like this.

All that is left is hot gluing the remaining ends together. (Or if you want to reuse later, use 2 paper clips to keep them together.

And there you have it! You can use patterned paper as well and embellish it with a stamped and die-cut image in the center.

Want to put the rosettes away? Simply reheat the one end of the rosette with a heat tool that you had glued closed and gently pull it apart or if you used paper clips, unclip them. Keep the accordion intact and wrap with Washi tape. Done.

Now the secret tip. I love making everything from scratch so I like making my own rosettes but when things get busy again, you may not have the time, so consider buying pre-made rosettes and attach the stamped images to the center of the rosettes. It’s perfect for making customized decor. And don’t forget, rosettes look good as package toppers too! NOW for the extra fun, I die-cut the Luggage Tag Alphabet letters to form words and stitched them together. I felt like I needed a message with the rosettes. And, die-cut circles make for a great fold-over banner. What a nice surprise that the lemon slice stamp fits perfectly inside it!
