Hero Hues Sunset Strips

Good morning! Jess here with a fun way to use up your gorgeous Hero Hues cardstocks scraps and create vintage-inspired cards!

So I've been binge-watching tv shows set in the 80s and 90s this summer and some of the fashion reminded me of shirts I used to buy when I was in middle school. I'm pretty sure they were actually considered vintage back then inspired by 70s surf shops and recently, I've actually seen them back in stores again!! My mom always told me that all fashion trends come around again (never believed her when I was a kid) and I guess she was right! ;) But I digress...the trend I'm speaking of is brightly (usually rainbow) striped t-shirt designs of some sort of nature silhouette...beaches, mountains, etc. and I thought the Forest Sunset Fancy Die and Hero Hues cardstocks would be perfect for creating a similar look!

I used a variety of Hero Hues cardstocks for each card but stuck mainly to a vibrant rainbow palette. For the first card I adhered scrap strips of Azalea, Cherry, Cranberry, Papaya, Pumpkin, Canary, Kiwi, Meadow, Paradise, Adriatic, Nautical, and Plum to double-sided adhesive sheets and die-cut them with the Forest Sunset Fancy Die. I varied the width of the colors for more interest. I also stamped a sentiment from Lake Time Fun onto Pitch Black cardstock and heat-embossed it with white embossing powder. I adhered the sunset to a Dove White top-folding card base and then added the sentiment with foam mounting tape.

For my second card I added Peony cardstock and removed some of the darker shades from my first palette. This time I adhered them directly to a Dove White top-folding white card base. I die-cut the Forest Sunset Fancy Die from a second panel of Dove White cardstock trimmed to 3.75" by 5.5" and adhered it over the rainbow base with foam mounting tape. I finished this card with a sentiment from Camp in the Wild.

My final card includes more of the lighter cardstock shades again but also added back in my favorite Plum purple shade! I adhered this one directly to the card base again and added another embossed sentiment from Camp in the Wild to finish the card.

And that's it! I hope this inspires you to use up those cardstock scraps! If you don't happen to have any Hero Hues cardstock scraps lying around you can purchase this great sampler pack of all the cardstock colors to try them out! I think this would be a pretty design all in teals, blues, and purples or neutrals with maybe a hint of glitter cardstock somewhere...hmm. ;)

Thanks for stopping by and have a fantastic day!

Thank you so much for sharing and have a great weekend.

Henriétte,

A super cool idea, Jess ! I loved the rainbow stripes way back then, ( and they were not vintage when I wore them! :) ), & I love how you have used them on cards!

Patt H.,

These are amazing! What a fabulous idea. =)

Mary M.,

Love the bright colors of the stripes against all the white. Very dramatic and fun.
