A Closer Look at New Hero Hues Pigment Inks

Along with the debut of the 2020 Spring Catalog, we released eight new jewel-toned pigment inks that are a great addition to our ink collection. The properties of pigment inks allow for different techniques than dye inks since the ink stays wet longer. They create crisp results for stamping and are great for heat embossing.

I created a chart to show off the vibrant colors of these inks. The top image of each color is stamped once and the bottom image shows what it looks like with clear embossing powder. As you can see, the color intensifies even more with embossing.

To show these inks in action, I've created a card showing how they can be used straight to paper for an intense background and how their opacity makes them great for layering.

On a piece of white cardstock, I swiped the Amethyst and Sapphire inks across the paper horizontally to create the gradient background. The colors blend together beautifully and since they remain wet, you can keep layering and overlapping color until you are happy with the results.

I used a heat gun to help speed up the drying of the background, but you can also just set it aside to dry for a few minutes. Next, I stamped the large floral image from the Togetherness Flower Bouquet set in each of the corners. I love the way the ink sits on top on top of the background color, keeping its original color.

I added a white heat embossed sentiment and coordinating message from the Congrats Happy Stamp + Cut. Before you heat emboss over a pigment background like this, make sure it is completely dry or the embossing powder will stick in places you don't want it to.

I continued the floral pattern on my white card base by stamping the design in each corner with the same inks as the main panel. I popped up this panel with some foam adhesive and added a scattering of Ombré Blue and Ombré Purple sequins.

These inks are a great addition to our existing shadow, hybrid and reactive inks. I'm looking forward to seeing how all the inks can be used together to create some fun new techniques.

This is exactly what I’d like to do with the inks. Unfortunately, mine always come out all muddy and gray.
