Simply Swirled Backgrounds

I’ve collected wood stamps for a long time so I’m always excited when I have the opportunity to add a beautiful, new stamp to my collection. In particular, I’m fond of the wood background stamps that can be used for many occasions during the year.

Today I’m sharing two birthday cards that feature the new Large Swirl Background stamp. The intricate design of swirled lines is perfect for creating both bold and subtle backgrounds on modern and vintage style cards.

Large Swirl Background by Jayne Nelson for Hero ArtsFor my cards, I let the Large Swirl Background be the focal point of the design. After creating white card bases, I stamped and embossed only a portion of the swirl pattern along opposite sides of each card. On this first card, I’ve stamped a portion of the swirl along the lower left side of the card and then again along the upper right side. I love the “movement” of the swirls across the card. I inked the embossed panel with several green and blue distress inks and then splattered the card with a few water drops.

On my second card, I embossed a portion of the Large Swirl Background along the upper and lower card edges, rather than the sides. The result is a similarly beautiful pattern of swirls “floating” across the card. I inked the panel with the same green and blue inks, added a few water drops, and then set it aside to dry.

To create simply embellished sentiments, I stamped several stems of leaves from the Color Layering For You Flowers set with Aquatic ink, die cut them with the coordinating dies, and then strategically secured two stems behind each sentiment, creating the illusion of a single, longer stem.

On one of the cards, I die cut the sentiment and vellum with the new Nesting Oval Infinity Dies. Finally, I couldn’t resist adding a few of the shimmery Hero Arts Ombre Ocean and Ombre Green sequins onto each of the cards.

Thank you so much for starting your week with us! I hope that you are inspired to take another look at the Large Swirl Background stamp – it’s gorgeous and original! Wishing you a wonderful week,

Very pretty. When you said “I inked the embossed panel with several green and blue distress inks,” what did you mean by inked? How did you get the colors onto the card. Did you press the ink pads to the paper?

Lesli,

LOVE this Swirl!!! So wonderfully swirly, i is the kind of touch that makes a card come together. Thank you.
