Dancin’ Halloween Kinetic Cards

Hello friends, welcome back to Spellbinders blog. Angela here with a fun set of cards featuring the new Halloween release Dancin’ Halloween. It is a collection inspired by Mexican celebration of Dia de los Muertos and it is perfect to create fun and colorful projects.

The dies from the collection are meant to create kinetic cards. Here is my first ‘dancing card’!

I used  Dancin’ Boy Day of the Dead die set and its stamp set called Dancin’ Halloween Sentiments. To create the card, I started assembling the dancing boy. I cut all the pieces in black Cardstock except for the skull and bones.

For dressing up the boy, I looked for inspiration on the web and I found an elegant Mexican black suit with gold accents. So, for the hat and the suit details I went for shining gold, using Mirror Gold cardstock while for the guitar, I used kraft cardstock and red, to give a pop of color to the card.

As I said, the set allows to create an interactive card, in the sense that the legs can be movable. In fact, the legs shape has a little ring at the top that can accommodate a round (or square) foam tape piece. This way the legs are not glued down, rather remain hung up to the foam piece. On top of the ring and glued to the foam tape piece, I positioned the upper part of the boy’s body. This ensures the legs stay in place, free to swing sidewards.

The finished card is an A2 size. The white front panel, that holds the dancin’ boy, is 4 x 5,25 inches and it’s foiled with Geometric Flower Background plate in gold foil. Then, it is mounted on a black cardstock rectangle of 4,25 x 5,5 inches.

The second card is the female version of the previous one and it’s made with Dancin’ Girl Day of the Dead. It’s always a kinetic card but this time it’s the whole body to swing while the head remains still. The body is hung up to a piece of foam tape sticked behind the skull.

To create the card, I started once again assembling the girl first. Here, I had fun playing with the girl’s dress and making a few additional ruffles to the original design. I cut a few ruffles more, in pink and in purple cardstock and I adhered them to the bottom of the skirt and to the bottom of the sleeves.

On the head she wears flowers and on her hands, she’s holding two maracas. These pieces are dies part of the set that allows playing creating different air styles, for example.

The sentiment is always from Dancin’ Hallowing Sentiments stamp and this time I went for the Spanish Feliz Dia De Los Muertos.

The last card is definitely my preferred especially because of the sentient. The die set I used is called Dancin’ Grim and I love it!

This time I switched to a black background and a yellow circle to create a full-moon night scene. The black front panel is mounted on a white A2 card base. On the side, I left a withe border of 0,25 inch to add some interest to the card

To give a unique touch to the card, I replaced the cutting piece of the sickle stick with a real little wood stick. To finish it up, at the top of the stick, I glued the sickle blade, cut in Silver Mirror cardstock.

The Death wishing to party like there’s no tomorrow has a cynical sound, I know but here is the fun. For me, at least. Thanks so much for stopping by.
