Good Vibes Only Inspiration | Watercolored Crystals with Rubeena

Hi, crafty friends! This is Rubeena from A Rare Ruby, and I’m so excited to be a guest on the Spellbinders Blog today. This post is part of a series featuring the Good Vibes Only Collection by Stephanie Low! I have two cards to share with you that will focus on the Crystal Peaks dies.

To begin, I die-cut the large crystal die and the large backer die from watercolor cardstock. I wanted to try some loose watercoloring so I looked on Pinterest for watercolor gems as inspiration. I did not worry too much about the shading and where the light would fall on a crystal, but it is a good place to start practicing.

For the first card, I used the intricate cuts as a guide. In order to keep all the pieces together, I added some tape to the back. I used my Mijello Mission Gold watercolors to add some blue and purple shades, and I used a wet wipe to dab any area that I wanted to lighten. I set it aside to dry, and once it was dry, I added in details with a white gel pen. For the black card base, I added some white paint splatters. I stamped the sentiment onto the card base with Versamark ink and heat embossed with white embossing powder. I mounted the watercolored crystal with foam tape for dimension.

For the second card, I used the large backer die-cut and used the first colored crystal as a guide. I watercolored it in a similar manner and once that dried, I added in my own details with a white gel pen. I added some white and black paint splatters on the crystal, too.

For the background, I added a light gray wash to watercolor cardstock. I stamped the sentiment with Versafine Onyx Black Ink. For my card base, I added a strip of black and white striped pattern paper and then taped the gray wash cardstock above it. Finally, I mounted the large watercolored crystal with foam tape.
