Hello, crafting friends! It is me again, Beverly Tiemann. I’m a stitcher, card-maker, mixed- media artist, and quilter. One of my favorite things to handcraft is decorations for my home. Spellbinders has four new die sets to get you going with your Autumn decor. The Halloween Felt Stitch & Create dies will provide you with some adorable 3-D felt Halloween goodies to stitch for your home. There is a Charming Witch Hat with two different motifs to jazz it up. The Harvest Witch Boot includes floral and foliage embellishments. These can be added to the other die sets for additional mileage! The Fright Night Feline has a big personality! And then there is a Patchwork Boo ghost, which speaks to my quilter’s heart. In addition to the cute Hat/Boot ornament, I used the other dies to make a colorful Tic-Tac-Toe game. Information about the board and instructions to make it are in this blog post.

Spellbinders Merino Felt is die-cut just like cardstock. Here is a quick reminder about the order of the sandwich plates when cutting paper/felt. Start with the Platform Base (A) on the bottom. Place the Platform Top (B) on top of A. Then add one Cutting Plate (C) with the felt on top of the plate. Next, add the dies and complete the sandwich by placing another Cutting Plate (C) on top of the stack. Pictured below, see the new Feline cat head dies are on top of the Bonfire color from the Kaleidoscope Collection. Both dies fit on the Platinum 6 platform at the same time.

The dies are intended to cut felt, but they cut other materials equally well. Make cute Halloween cards and scrapbook embellishments by cutting cardstock or thin foam. The picture below shows the Charming Witch Hat stars and moons cut with cardstock. These are shown here to illustrate the difference between the stand-alone dies pictured on the left versus the dies that cut out the interior design for easier stitching.

To make the black Charming Witch Hat and Harvest Witch Boot ornament, cut Coal Wool Felt from any of the 8 x 12 sheets included in either the Kaleidoscope, Holiday, or Classic Pooh Collections.

From Coal felt: Die-cut the Hat and the Boot twice each. On one hat, cut the insert star to create stitching holes for the yellow star embellishment to be appliqued onto.

From Honey felt: Die cut the Hat Band, Moon, and Star once each.
From Snow felt: Die cut one Star.
From Sunflower felt: Die cut two pointy flower petals from the Boot set. (They resemble a picket fence.)
Save the scraps from cutting larger pieces to use for the smaller dies. Here are a few examples of this.

Or tuck them in between larger shapes from different die sets.

Stitch the Snow and the Honey Moon together using gold metallic thread. Set aside. Sew the hat band onto the Witch Hat front piece; this is the one with the star pattern stitching holes. Use 2 or 3 strands of yellow embroidery floss in a crisscross (X) pattern. With one strand of gold metallic thread, sew a running stitch along the top and bottom of the band, as shown below. Sew the star onto the front with gold thread, placing it over the stitching holes made from the interior cut die.

TIP: Be gentle when sewing with the metallic thread. Pulling too tightly on the stitches can cut the felt. Use regular embroidery floss, if desired.
Sew the two hat pieces together at the peak using a running stitch with metallic gold thread. Leave a long tail of the gold thread to attach the moon after sewing the rest of the hat together. Use black embroidery floss with a running stitch to sew the rest of the hat together. Cut floss approximately 45” long to go around the hat one time, without having to stop and start with new thread.

Weave the tail of the gold piece coming from the top of the hat into the stitching on the back of the snow-colored moon. Tie a knot to secure it, if necessary.
Sew the two boot pieces together using a running stitch with black embroidery floss. Starting at the top, use gold metallic thread to sew the laces. Leave approximately 5 inches at the beginning and end to tie a bow.

Glue the Sunflower colored fringe decoration onto the top of the front and back of the boot. (The fringe is the die that is pointy flower petals.)

Attach the hat to the boot with black embroidery floss, leaving 1 ½” -2” between them. Sew an additional loop to the top of the hat from which to hang the ornament.

These would make cute decorations to hang in windows or across a doorway. Assembly- line or bulk die cutting is easy. Containing the small pieces can be accomplished by keeping items corralled in a tray. Here are five sets of the Patchwork Boo diecuts waiting to be stitched together.

They are so cute when done! I couldn’t resist showing them again!

Are you a traditionalist when it comes to Halloween and use mainly orange and black? Or do you like to use lots of colors? There is something for everyone with this collection; either way works! I hope you enjoy using Nichol’s cute Halloween Felt Stitch & Create dies as much as I did. Thank you for visiting today. Tag me on Instagram if you make your own decorations or cards. I would love to see what you create!
