How to Use Planner Stickers for Colorful Cardmaking

Hello friends! It’s Laura Williams, FSJ Concept Designer, and I’ve stolen the FSJ blog today! Yay! Today I have three projects featuring a colorful, easy to use accessory.  FSJ’s Rainbow Pencils are adorable pencil-shaped sticky notes - and I’m feeling a little obsessed! The Rainbow Pencils might technically be a planner accessory, perfect for adding little notes or flags to your calendar or to-do list. That’s a fantastic use for them - but today we’ll look at three darling ways to add the Rainbow Pencils Sticky Notes to handmade cards.

As a Border

I took a clue from the packaging of the Rainbow Pencils for this first card. The row of colorful pencils is so bright and cheery and inspired me to make a matching border across my card. I attached the pencils side by side just like they came in the package. Since these pencils are sticky notes, they do have some light adhesive on one end but I easily stuck them down permanently with Craft Glue. (Easy Glide Adhesive Runner will work too.) The Congrats Die looks so crisp and clean on top, and balances the colorful pencils peeking through the open space of the letters.

 

As a Background

For the next card, I covered a panel of Whip Cream cardstock with Rainbow Pencils. Because they have light adhesive, it was easy to lay them out and position them how I wanted, and then I went back and adhered permanently. I allowed some pencils to hang off the sides, and simply trimmed the overhang. I kept the sentiment super simple, so the focus would remain on those cute, colorful pencils!

As an Embellishment

Sometimes just one pencil is all you need! On this fun school-supply inspired card, I adhered a red Rainbow Pencil onto a small scrap of Whip Cream cardstock. After detail cutting it, I repeated the process two more times, which gave my pencil some thickness and stability. Then I attached it as an embellishment to my card. I stamped the Grid Paper Stamp, on the Notebook Page Die for the background layer. (I tore the bottom edge, just for a fun detail.) Then I added a few inky marks using the Different Strokes Stamp Set. Don't you think this would be a fun card for a teacher, graduate, or artist?

Don’t ever hesitate to look at your craft products in a new way - planner accessories are perfect for cardmaking or scrapbooking. (And vice versa too!)
