Metamorphosis: Rainbow Colored Fun

Hello and welcome! I’m Joan Bardee and today I’m featuring 3 cards using the gorgeous Metamorphosis Collection designed by Simon Hurley. (How does Simon create so many amazing products, videos, and samples??) This collection consists of 4 sets of dies: In Bloom, Stained Glass Window, Everyday Sentiments, and Brilliant Butterflies. I was particularly smitten with the arch shape in Stained Glass Window and the collection put me in the mood for rainbow colors, so get ready for rainbows.

  • The Stained Glass Window base die is perfect to make an arched-shaped card, so I did.
  • Die cut a fantasy rainbow-colored bouquet (with gold accents) using the In Bloom dies. Love how we can make anything in any color we want.
  • Popped up the flowers with foam adhesive and added a Brushed Gold (with a vellum backer) Love You from Everyday Sentiments dies.
  • A few gold embellishments finished the card.
Tip: Using the Stained Glass Window die to make a shaped card is an easy way to add an unexpected element to a card. It adds no bulk and fits perfectly into an A2 envelope.

Another card bursting with rainbow color goodness.
  • Die cut the detailed Stained Glass Window die twice in white cardstock and glued together.
  • Adhered it to a white arched base.
  • Die cut the Stained Glass in a variety of colors using strips of colored cardstock.
  • Immediately wondered why I did that! Pieces everywhere!
  • Adhered ALL the colored pieces.
  • Added a simple white “thank you” die cut 3 times in white cardstock with a vellum backer.
  • Adhered it all to an Alabaster A2 card.
Tip: Use Bearly Arts glue and a Crystal Ninja pick-up tool to adhere small pieces. I timed how long this took – basically an episode of the Sopranos, which I’ve been watching/listening to for the first time (a little less than an hour.) Was it worth it? Yes! Would I do it again? No.
Tip: Save yourself an hour and use patterned or ink-blended paper. Better yet, I can imagine some gorgeous cards with an alcohol-ink background. Tip: I second-guess my design choices all the time. I no longer have this card in my possession, but if I did, I think I’d make the sentiment black. It would pop against the rest of the card.

  • Swiped distress ink pads onto white cardstock to make my own rainbow-colored paper.
  • Die-cut the base butterflies with my handmade rainbow cardstock. Cut the detailed butterflies in white. Adhered together.
  • Created a base for the butterflies by inking up the Dazzling Dots Embossing Folder and dry embossing it onto pink cardstock.
  • Made a 5” square white card and adhered the embossed cardstock.
  • Die cut hello from Everyday Sentiments in black 4 times and adhered together.
  • Used foam tape to add the butterflies and glue for the sentiment.
  • Added a few silver embellishments.
Tip: I used the Dazzling Dots embossing folder because the subtle geometry worked well with the curved butterflies. Thanks for taking the time to check out my projects. And, thanks to Spellbinders for having me today. if you want to see what else I’m up to, you can find me on Instagram as Dear Paperlicious.

Thanks Karen!!

Joan Bardee,

Absolutely stunning cards Joan! I love the colours you’ve chosen and so appreciate you taking the time to glue in all those little pieces! It’s beautiful. I like the white sentiment because it does give the beauty of the stained glass an equal measure of attention. Wonderful work! P.S. Enjoy The Sopranos. It’s one of my all time favourite series

Karen Daley,

This flower comes from an older set, still available on our UK website – https://www.spellbinders.co.uk/products/in-bloom-etched-dies-from-the-metamorphosis-collection-by-simon-hurley?srsltid=AfmBOorbFxv-mBidWxE0pnkPTGsydT7FDd27qQWa7gARnoSreExuqN9J

Yana Smakula,

Joan, thank you for the inspiration- I have the stained glass window die, and can’t wait to try that " pieced " technique.
And pardon me for asking, but that 6-petal flower on the " hugs " card, has really caught my imagination! Where can i get that die from?
