Step By Step Tutorial: Boo! - How To Create A Clean And Simple Halloween Card

Hello there, Michelle Short here to share a step-by-step tutorial using the Spooktacular Collection by Simon Hurley. I love the ghosts in the Boo Crew set! You can dress up the ghosts with hats, glasses, ties, etc.  - so cute! For today, I thought it would be fun to take the witch's hat from the Bewitched set to add on to my ghost! STEP 1 – DIE-CUTTING THE GHOST + WITCH'S HAT

BOO! - HOW TO CREATE A CLEAN AND SIMPLE HALLOWEEN CARD, S6-264, S4-1493
  1. Cut pieces of cardstock slightly larger than the size of the dies.
  2. Place the main body of the ghost from Boo Crew onto Classic White ColorWheel Cardstock and hold in place with Best Ever Craft Tape.
  3. Place bottom layer of ghost onto Fog ColorWheel Cardstock and hold in place with Best Ever Craft Tape.
  4. Place back piece of ghost (to cover the eyes and mouth), as well as the witch's hat from Bewitched, onto Raven ColorWheel Cardstock and hold in place with Best Ever Craft Tape.
  5. Place glasses and band of hat onto Carrot ColorWheel Cardstock and hold in place with Best Ever Craft Tape.
  6. Place buckle of hat onto Brushed Metallic Silver Treasured Cardstock and hold in place with Best Ever Craft Tape.
Holding dies down with tape prevents them from shifting when going through the die-cutting machine. Use a low-tack tape like Best Ever Craft Tape so that it removes easily from the cardstock. BOO! - HOW TO CREATE A CLEAN AND SIMPLE HALLOWEEN CARD, S6-264, S4-1493
  1. Create your die cutting plate sandwich – (bottom to top) A Platform Base, B Platform Top, C Cutting Plate, cardstock pieces with dies on top, C Cutting Plate.
  2. Run through Platinum SIX Die Cutting Machine.
  3. Remove dies from cardstock and pop out die cuts.
  4. Repeat process to cut cheeks for the ghost (on the same die as the glasses) from Chiffon ColorWheel Cardstock.

STEP 2 – ASSEMBLE GHOST

BOO! - HOW TO CREATE A CLEAN AND SIMPLE HALLOWEEN CARD, S6-264, S4-1493

  1. Add glue around the face (on the back of the ghost).
  2. Adhere Raven cardstock piece on top to add colour to the eyes and mouth.
BOO! - HOW TO CREATE A CLEAN AND SIMPLE HALLOWEEN CARD, S6-264, S4-1493
  1. Turn ghost over and add glue to the cheek areas (you can see indentation marks on the ghost).
  2. Adhere cheeks on top (I like to use an embellishment tool for this).

  1. Add glue onto the back of the ghost’s head.
  2. Adhere onto the base layer of the witches' hat.
  3. Adhere top layer of the hat on top (this covers the top part of the ghost’s head).

  2. Adhere onto the ghost.

  1. Die cut ‘boo’ sentiment from Boo Crew three times from Raven ColorWheel Cardstock.
  2. Adhere one on top of another using small dabs of Bearly Art Glue.
Adhering layers of the sentiment together creates dimension and gives more impact to the sentiment on the card.

STEP 3 – CREATING THE CARD BASE

BOO! - HOW TO CREATE A CLEAN AND SIMPLE HALLOWEEN CARD, S6-264, S4-1493
  1. Create A2 sized card base from Lilac ColorWheel Cardstock.
  2. Mask off top of card base using masking tape and place onto Sticky Mat.
  3. Using an Extra Large Blending Brush, blend Purple Galaxy Ink around the edges of the card.
  4. Using a Medium Blending Brush, blend a small amount of Pitch Black Ink around the very edges of the card.
  5. Remove masking tape and fold to create card.

STEP 5 – ASSEMBLE THE CARD

BOO! - HOW TO CREATE A CLEAN AND SIMPLE HALLOWEEN CARD, S6-264, S4-1493
  1. Add black foam squares onto the back of the ghost, cutting some down in size to fit.
  2. Remove backings off of foam squares and adhere ghost onto card.

  1. Add small dabs of glue onto the back of the ‘boo’ sentiment.
  2. Dab off excess onto scrap paper.
  3. Adhere to card.
Tweezers are your friend! I use them to place elements down onto cards, but also to remove backings off of foam squares. They have so many uses! BOO! - HOW TO CREATE A CLEAN AND SIMPLE HALLOWEEN CARD, S6-264, S4-1493
  1. Embellish card with Onyx Color Essentials Gems.
BOO! - HOW TO CREATE A CLEAN AND SIMPLE HALLOWEEN CARD, S6-264, S4-1493 I absolutely love these ghosts! Their faces just make me smile! I love that you can embellish them as much or as little as you want. Thank you so much for stopping by the blog today. I hope you have a wonderful day!
