A Cup of Friendship Tea

Whether you drink tea or coffee, the new Nesting Tea Pot Infinity Dies and the Nesting Tea Cup Infinity Dies are perfect for creating tea-themed cards for your friends and family. You can use the dies to create delightful shaped cards and tags, adorable shaker windows, and simply sweet cardstock shapes for your card designs.

For today’s card, I’ve used the dies to pour a cup of “friendship tea” on a card for a friend. To make my card, I started by embossing the new Tribal Stripes Bold Prints background onto a piece of white layering paper. I love the look of this graphic background paired with traditional elements like a tea pot and tea cup. To add a hint of color, I painted over the embossed design with a soft pink watercolor wash. When the paint dried, I used a cool iron and inexpensive copy paper to remove the embossing.

Next, I embossed two spring herb images from the Fresh Herbs stamp set onto two scraps of pink cardstock. I was careful to choose images that easily fit within the size of my selected dies. After deciding where I wanted the images to appear on my die cuts, I used one tea pot die and one tea cup die to cut two shapes. To create handles, I simply positioned the smaller sized dies over the die cut shapes with temporary tape, carefully positioning the handles. Then, I used my die-cutting machine to only cut the handle part of the dies by extending the actual tea pot and tea cup part of the dies beyond the end of the cutting plate. I trimmed the inner edge of the tea pot and tea cup with scissors and then secured the shapes to the watercolored panel with foam tape.

Just for fun, I used a small needle and two strands of embroidery floss to stitch some “tea”, pouring from the tea pot into the tea cup. I added a sentiment from the Thank You Messages set that I embossed onto a strip of black cardstock. After adding the finished panel to a pink card base with foam tape, I also added a few black pearls and a black bow along the upper edge.
