The sweet and spooky fun continues with Beary Sweet Halloween Week! We’re celebrating the new Beary Sweet Holiday Collection with Halloween inspiration all week long, including videos, reels, an Instagram Hop and plenty of playful project ideas.
This week, Carly Tee is joining us with video tutorials featuring her Beary Sweet Holiday designs and lots of clever ways to put them to use. From easy techniques to interactive cards, there’s something new to inspire your Halloween crafting each day.
Today, Carly is combining two of our favorite things— candy and shaker cards! Using the Candy Wrappers Stamp & Cut, she’s turning one tiny candy wrapper into an adorable mini shaker filled with sparkle and a sweet Halloween surprise. Take it away, Carly!
Hi Crafty Friends! Carly here! Have you ever made a mini shaker for a card? You might already know that I LOVE shaker cards, and I’m currently extra smitten with these little mini shakers made with the Candy Wrappers Stamp & Cut!
The wrapper is the perfect size for creating a tiny shaker pocket, and you only need a few simple supplies to turn it into an interactive embellishment for your card.
Check out the video below to see how my mini candy wrapper shaker comes together!
Create Background & Candy Wrapper
I started by stamping a simple background of candy wrappers onto white cardstock with black ink. I like letting some of the images extend beyond the edges of the panel so the design feels like a continuous pattern.
I kept the center fairly open to give the mini shaker plenty of room to shine, then stamped the You Deserve a Treat sentiment just above where the shaker would eventually go. The black and white background is simple, but it gives the card a fun candy theme before we even add the colorful focal point.
For the shaker, stamp the same wrapper twice. Stamp one onto white cardstock with black ink, then stamp another onto colored cardstock using a lighter ink. I used Spellbinders Orchid Cardstock with a light gray ink for mine.
Use the coordinating die to cut out the white wrapper. I layered it with a second die cut to give the finished piece a little extra stability.
For the Orchid wrapper, you only need the center portion. Use scissors to carefully cut away the outside of the wrapper, following the stamped lines as a guide. This colorful piece will become the background of the shaker.
Build the Mini Shaker Pocket & Fill it with Treats
Now it’s time to turn that little piece into a shaker! I love using lightweight plastic saved from product packaging for this technique.
Cut a piece of plastic large enough to wrap around the Orchid piece. Fold the plastic around the edges and adhere it to the back, leaving one side open so you can add your shaker mix.
Because the plastic wraps around the cardstock instead of requiring a frame and acetate window, this is an easy way to create a tiny shaker without lots of extra layers.
Add your favorite shaker bits through the open side. I used chunky glitter for lots of sparkle, then tucked in a small die-cut candy from the Candy Kebob Halloween Add-On Die Set for an extra surprise.
Once everything is inside, seal the final edge of the plastic to close the pocket. Give it a little shake and make sure everything can move around before finishing the assembly.
Adhere the completed shaker pocket to the white die-cut wrapper. The black stamped outline creates a crisp border around the colorful shaker and makes it look like one tiny piece of wrapped candy.
Finally, adhere the mini shaker to your card underneath the sentiment. I love how that one small interactive element adds a big dose of fun while still keeping the overall card design clean and simple!
One More Beary Sweet Day!
Thanks, Carly! This tiny shaker is such a fun way to give the Candy Wrappers Stamp & Cut an interactive twist. We especially love the idea of adding a die-cut candy right inside the shaker—it’s like a little treat within a treat!
There’s one more day of Beary Sweet Halloween Week to go! Be sure to check back tomorrow for one final project and video from Carly as we wrap up our week of sweet and spooky inspiration with the Beary Sweet Holiday Collection.
