Creating Masks with Stencils to Build a Scene

I am a huge fan of Infinity Dies because it allows me to pop up my elements for dimension but sometimes it's fun to get a little creative and build a scene by creating masks. That's what I'll do doing today with the Coloring Layering Decorative Eggs Stencil.

To create this card, I started with a piece of Masking Magic, any form of masking paper will work, even post it notes that have the full sticky back. I took the first layer of the stencil which just has the Easter egg shapes and traced out two eggs out of the three I picked onto the Masking Magic. Then I trimmed around it with my scissors. I would suggest cutting just a little outside of the traced line.

Now that my masks are ready I'm going to grab a piece of Deluxe Smooth White Cardstock trimmed to 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" and line up the smallest egg that I picked out. Again, this is starting with the first layer of the stencils which just has the open areas of the egg.

I'm going to start with a blending brush and Cotton Candy Ink. After blending, I'll remove the stencil and place the coordinating mask over the top. You'll want to be sure to clean your stencil in between so you don't transfer any ink.

Still using the first stencil, I'm going to shift it and place the next egg I picked out so it sits just above and behind the first egg. This one I'll blend with Paradise Ink. After removing the stencil, I'll place it's coordinating mask over the top, shift my stencil and blend the largest egg in the back with Orchid ink.

Now that I have my base layer for the eggs, I can go back over the top with a design. This is where the fun really happens because you have many designs to choose from.

Starting with my purple egg, since all of my masks are in place, I'm going to go over the egg with Amethyst Ink. For the remaining eggs, I'll use Bermuda for the teal egg and Azalea for the pink egg. You will need to remove your mask from the middle egg to add the Azalea color.

Notice that I didn't create a mask for the largest egg? That's because it's included in this stencil set! Yay! I put all my masks back in place and held down the predone mask using repositionable tape. Then I lightly ink-blended Cornflower at the top for the sky and Green Hills at the bottom for grass.

I couldn't have Easter eggs without a bunny so I used the Rabbit Pair Fancy Die cut from White Cardstock and added details with my Olo Markers.

I stamped the word "happy" at the top of the card using Pitch Black Ink and added the die cut word Easter from the Happy Easter Stamp & Cut XL to complete my card.

You can really have fun with color and design using this stencil set. And if you really want to stretch your designs, pick up the Infinity Egg Fancy Die to pop things up!
