Mixing Collections for Two Tote-ally Beautiful Cards

Hello! I’m Mindy, and I’m excited to be here on the Hero Arts blog today. Inspired by market-themed imagery, I decided to challenge myself to combine two completely different collections—the playful Tote-ally Awesome collection with its customizable tote and charms, and the serene Tranquil Garden collection featuring lovely lotus flowers. The result is two unique cards that show how fun it can be to mix unexpected styles.

Both of these collections offer so much versatility in their own unique ways. Watch the how-to video below to see how these two cards came together. I’ll walk you through the process of combining elements from both collections and share how I balanced the different styles to create cohesive designs.

The Tote-ally Awesome collection lets you build a customized tote with interchangeable charms, making it easy to tailor your design to any theme or occasion. It also includes a background builder stamp set that’s perfect for adding patterns, texture, and extra interest to your cards.

Blooming Birthday Tote

For my tote, I used the Background Builder Stamp Set to heat emboss a dot pattern in gold directly onto the bag, which gave it more of a designer-inspired look and added a touch of shine and sophistication to the finished design.

The Tranquil Garden collection brings a completely different feel with its beautiful lotus images, which can be styled for elegant, peaceful designs or used in more modern layouts.

Layered Lotus Tote Design

For the color scheme, I kept the tote a neutral tan so the flowers could really shine and become the main focus of the design. Using a softer, neutral color for the bags helps ground the overall look and keeps the scene from feeling too busy or confusing to the viewer. It also allows the colorful lotus flowers to stand out beautifully, drawing your eye right to the details that matter most.

Combining these two collections creates a fun contrast between playful and serene styles. The tote elements paired with the elegant lotus flowers make for a unique design that feels both modern and unexpected. Mixing different genres like this is a great way to spark new creative ideas.

Supplies

Thank you so much for spending time with me today! I hope this project inspires you to mix and match your collections and discover new creative possibilities. Wishing you lots of crafty inspiration!
