Mixing Patterns on Holiday Ornaments

Good morning! Emily Midgett here with you today sharing some inspiration using the new Fancy Ornaments Infinity Dies and some of the beautiful backgrounds to create lots of texture and interest on these solid die cuts. Let's get started with the details!

I began by die cutting several sizes of the Fancy Ornaments Infinity Dies from various shades of aqua and gray card stock, as well as some glitter paper from October's My Monthly Hero kit. (That stuff die cuts like buttah. Love it.) On the solid card stock die cuts, I added some white heat embossed patterns using the new Graphic Snowflake Bold Prints background stamp, as well as some oldie-but-goodie Bold Prints: Candy Stripe and Garland. When choosing which patterns to mix, I wanted contrasting sizes and styles. The Graphic Snowflake was busy, but with thin lines, creating a delicate pattern, while the Candy Stripe had thick, bold lines. For the "medium" pattern, I wanted something very subtle to create a nice bridge between the two busy patterns, and the lovely dotted Garland pattern was perfect.

To add a bit of depth to the edges of the ornaments, I blended a bit of ink around the edge of each: Emerald Green, Mint Julep, and Soft Granite. I also used blending brushes to blend both Mint Julep and Soft Granite around the edges of a white A2 card base to create a pretty grayish-aqua color. I adhered all of the ornaments in a cluster using foam and liquid adhesives for lots of dimension.

For the sentiment, I used the new Very Merry Tree Fancy Die to die cut from black card stock, then used my fine-tip scissors to snip just the "merry Christmas" word die cuts and adhered them to the front of the ornament cluster, and added some Crystal Glaze to the word die cuts to really help them to pop off of the busy patterns. The final step was to add some Nuvo drops randomly all over the card front to add even more texture.

Well, that's all for me today! The Infinity Dies can be so versatile, especially when paired with the Bold Prints background stamps. Add in some pattern mixing, and you've got a trendy and fun holiday card. Thanks so much for stopping by, and have a marvelous day!
