JCCards here! I have three card projects today that feature the elegant
Picot Petite Collection from Becca Feeken for Spellbinders. This die collection is simply stunning - so intricate with its loops and flourishes, but with staple shapes perfect for borders on all sorts of cards.
All three of my cards today feature metallic cardstock and patterned paper. I’m always looking for new ideas for my gigantic stash of patterned paper, and these dies provide the perfect complement - no stamping required!
Seasons Greetings
My first card features the
Filigree Quartet. This is a super clever die which can be used to use lace-like windows in cardstock, and includes a grid die to enable the shapes to be lined up perfectly, including super thin die outlines if you want the filigree shapes to be cut out directly.
I first cut down a square of my background patterned paper. It’s grey-blue with gold etching on it, so I used FSJ Gold Mirror cardstock for my die cutting. I used the grid to line up the four filigree windows and the die outline to cut them out directly. I also die-cut the shape outlines again (without the filigree) from FSJ Pool Play cardstock and adhered them to the back of the gold shapes with liquid glue. The die cut grid outline provides a great way to ensure the filigree shapes line up perfectly on your card - I held it over my patterned paper square then adhered the filigree pieces through the holes with foam squares.
I die-cut a square from the gold mirror cardstock using the grid outline and popped it in the centre, and used the etched strip in the centre to cut two pieces of the patterned paper which I adhered over the top. I then mounted the entire piece onto a gold mirror panel leaving a small outline border, then a Whip Cream card base.
For a little bling I added some blue gemstones. My sentiment was foiled using the
Glimmer Hot Foil system with Matte Gold foil. It’s from an older Glimmer of the Month set but similar plates are available in the Holiday Sentiments Series 2 set. I thought - why not use it as a christmas card?!
Merry Christmas
For this card I’m featuring the gorgeous
Bed of Lace dies and
Pico Petite Ovals. These pair perfectly together when you lay out the Bed of Lace dies a certain way. The fun thing about these dies is that they can be cut in different ways for different looks.
I’m using a blush mirror cardstock from an old Spellbinders card kit, along with some cream polka dot patterned paper - the polka dots are blush metallic also. I die-cut the
Bed of Lace filigree shape twice from the mirror cardstock, making sure I used the trim to cut the shapes out completely. I also die-cut the largest
Picot Petite Oval - by placing the second largest inside it before die cutting, you can get a border outline (and a left over oval to use on another project).
I backed the oval border with patterned paper and adhered them together, then mounted it onto a Whip Cream notecard. I then arranged the Bed of Lace dies over the top, lining up their tips with the edge of the oval top and and bottom, and adhered with small strips of foam tape.
The smaller label in the
Bed of Lace set and the small oval I cut from the same cardstock and patterned paper, adhered them together and popped into the centre with foam squares to cover up the join and act as a backdrop for my sentiment. The sentiment is glimmered in Blush hot foil on Whip Cream cardstock using the same sentiment set as before, then mounted on foam squares. I finished with some Meadow Pearls embellishments with tie-in perfectly.
Happy Birthday
My final card is a birthday card. This time I used the
Picot Petite Rectangles, and die-cut the largest from FSJ Silver Mirror cardstock. I used the dotted rectangle and a straight rectangle from the
Essential Rectangles Nestabilities to cut a more elaborate border. I love to use older Spellbinders dies with new sets to create slightly different looks like this. I backed it with some pretty purple floral patterned paper (from an older Spellbinders card kit) and adhered it to a Whip Cream cardbase.
I die-cut a small circle border in the same way from a scrap of purple cardstock that complemented the patterned paper, using the
Picot Petite Circles. After adhering it to the centre of my card, I ‘fluffed’ up the border for dimension.
I then used two of the shapes from the Filigree Quartet, placing them next to each other to create a diamond shape, cutting it from the Silver Mirror cardstock. I then used a paper trimmer to trim out the entire piece in one, then mounted it on my card with foam tape.
As the base for my sentiment, I grabbed the last little piece of my purple cardstock and die-cut a circle using the
Nestabilities Essential Circles, and popped it up on foam tape. I glimmered ‘Happy Birthday’ from the same Glimmer of the Month as before using Silver foil - a similar sentiment can be found in the Glimmer More Sentiments plates set. I embellished using a little plastic flower from an earlier Spellbinders card kit, and some FSJ Fashion Silver embellishments.

I love the luxury these cards give off - filigree swirls paired with mirror cardstock really works - mount on any type of patterned paper and these dies can work for any occasion and will really give the recipient that WOW factor don’t you think?
