FSJ Dueling Designers - Part 2

Hello fun friends! A few weeks ago we issued a fun and creative challenge to our concept designers, Mariana Grigsby and Laura Williams. We asked each designer to pull out the same stamp set, and make a handmade card. It was such fun to see how each designer used the products differently. Today we're back with another round of Dueling Designers, and we've tasked the ladies with the Color Me Zen stamp set. We’re excited to show you the cards they created, and we’ll hear a little bit from each of them about their process. Are you ready to check them out? First up, is Mariana's card:

Two handmade cards with the Color Me Zen Stamp Set from Fun Stampers Journey - Wake Up and Do All You Can #funstampersjourney #cardmaking

The Color Me Zen ATS showcases a sentiment surrounded by beautiful floral graphics. I chose to color this with Liquid Colors and I applied them with a small Blending Brush. I stamped the image on Whip Cream cardstock with Black Licorice Ink. Then, I colored it using Limeade Splash, Cool Pool, Fresh Sage, Peaches & Cream, and Watermelon Fusion Liquid colors. I trimmed the image and matted it on a Whip Cream panel. Next, I applied Journey glaze over the wavy edge and words.

To create the background, I simply used daubers and different colors of inks to mimic the colors of the main stamped image. I wanted the background to be an extension of the colors in the main image. I used Lemon Drop, Peaches & Cream, Cool Pool, Watermelon Fusion and Beach Breeze True Color Fusion Inks. Additionally I stamped the Grid Paper background stamp with Fresh Sage ink. Finally, I adhered the background panel over a Sweet Berry folded card. I adhered the main image with foam squares and I embellished the card with some pink sequins.

Don't you love the bright colors and fun background technique on this card?! Now, let's see what Laura created. We have a feeling there are more BRIGHT COLORS involved!

The Color Me Zen ATS is so much fun to color. But I wanted to do some layering and add a lot of depth too, so first I stamped the image three times. One image was trimmed and adhered to layers of Whip Cream, and Blue Lagoon. After coloring the blue and green background areas, I colored the second image, trimming around the flower and leafy areas. After coloring that portion and adhering with foam squares, I trimmed the sentiment section and adhered that on top as the third layer. All of the coloring was done with the Journey Color Burst Pure Color Pencils. I love the bold colors I can achieve, and the colors blend and layer so richly!

What do you think of the latest creations in our Dueling Designers challenge? The good news is – there’s no need to pick favorites here – both designers made such creative cards, and we bet you’re totally inspired now! It’s always fun to see how different people use the same product and give it their own special flair. This week, why don’t you call or text a papercrafting friend and challenge each other! Plan a crafty date and use the same stamp set, or work from afar and pick a stamp set you both have, or something similar. We can’t see what you create!
