Garden Shutters Collection – Card Inspiration with Annie Williams

Hi there, this is Annie Williams and I’m thrilled to be back on the blog today to share a couple of projects using the new Garden Shutters Collection from Spellbinders.  The fun interactive card bases, pretty florals, and beautiful butterflies in this collection inspired me to create three cards perfect for sending a springtime hello.

I love the unique shutter mechanisms in this collection and had to try my hand at one of these first. Here I mixed and matched elements from both the A2 and 5” x 7” shutter card base sets for an interactive encouragement card.

  • Die cut Royal Amethyst Cardstock using the A2 Card Base Die from the Daisy Delight Garden Shutters A2 Card Base Die Set.
  • Die cut Lilac Blossom Cardstock using the A2 Card Base and Kinetic Base Dies from the same set.
  • Adhere a piece of patterned paper from the You Are Stellar Paper Pad to a piece of scrap cardstock (to strengthen this layer) and die cut it using the A2 Card Base and Card Window dies.
  • Assemble the card base using liquid glue as outlined in the directions.

  • Die cut white cardstock using the Decorative Rectangle Outline and Insert Dies from the Butterfly Bliss Garden Shutters 5x7 Card Base Die Set and adhere to the shutter flaps of the card base with liquid glue.
  • Die cut white and Lilac Blossom Cardstock using the Art Deco Border Dies from the Primrose Heart Façade Die Set. Adhere the layers together with liquid glue and then add them above and below the shutter window.

I loved the sweet stitched details in the Eyelet Lace Frame Die Set and thought it would be the perfect background to pair with the gorgeous flowers in the Primrose Heart Façade Die Set for this pretty shaped card.
  • Score and fold white cardstock to form a top-folding card base slightly larger than 5” x 7”. Position the Scallop Rim Die from the Eyelet Lace Frame Die Set slightly over the folded edge of the cardstock and run through your die cutting machine several times until you have cut through both layers.
  • Die cut Cosmic Sky Cardstock using the Scallop Rim Die and white cardstock using the Scallop Rim, Squares Insert, and Outer Eyelet Insert dies.
  • Adhere the blue layer behind the white layer and then add it to the shaped card base with tape runner.

  • Die cut Raindrop Cardstock using the Inner Rectangle Outline and Inner Eyelet Insert dies. Adhere it to the center of the card front with foam adhesive.
  • Die cut Cosmic Sky and white cardstock using one of the sentiment dies from the Sweet Sayings Notecard Sentiments Die Set. Adhere the blue layer behind the white layer with liquid glue, allowing it to peek out a bit as a shadow, before adding it to the center of the card front.

  • Die cut Pink Sand, Rainforest, and Beeswax Cardstock using the flower dies from the Primrose Heart Façade Die Set.
  • Apply Picked Raspberry and Mowed Lawn Distress Inks to the petals and leaves with a sponge dauber to add some dimension.
  • Assemble the layered flowers with liquid glue and add them around the sentiment with foam adhesive.

I thought the lattice pattern in the Daisy Delight Garden Shutters A2 Card Base Die Set was so pretty and wanted to create a whole card out of it.  It turns out that four panels make the perfect background for a mini slimline card, so I paired it with some pretty flowers and butterflies for this love card.
