Pattern Play with the Color Block Mini Shapes Collection

Hello fellow crafters. It’s Jean sharing A2-size cards created with the Color Block Mini Shapes Collection at Spellbinders. This collection, consisting of geometric die sets, can be used to craft for a variety of occasions. With the sets, countless patterns can be designed, whether simple or complicated. It’s fun to experiment with the shapes! Let’s look at the three cards I made with die sets in the collection.

For my first card, I used the Color Block Mini Hexagons set, keeping the colors the same for the hexagons.

Create card base:

• Create an A2-size card base covered with textured white cardstock.
• Cut a mat from red cardstock with the 4 x 5.25 inches die in the Precision Layering A2 A Etched Dies Attach to the card base.

Create hexagons:

• Cut five solid hexagons with die in the Color Block Mini Hexagons set from Snowdrift
• Cut Color Block Mini Hexagons from dark teal, teal, light teal, Snowdrift, red, and silver foil cardstock. Adhere hex pieces to the solid hexagons, starting with the outermost shape and working inward.
• Tape assembled hexagons together on the back.
• Add the assembly to the card base.

Create sentiment:

• Glimmer foil sentiment on Snowdrift cardstock in Silver with a plate in the Be Bold Glimmer Sentiments set and cut with coordinating die. Add to card with foam adhesive.

Other supplies

Textured white, silver foil, dark teal, teal, light teal, and red cardstock; tape; foam adhesive Next, I used the Color Block Mini Squares set, using the same colors on the squares while changing the position of the color.

Create card base:

• Create an A2-size card base in dark blue cardstock.
• Cut a mat from Snowdrift cardstock with the 75 x 3.50 inches die in the Precision Layering A2 A Etched Dies set.
• Cut a mat from light gray cardstock with the 4.50 x 3.25 inches die in the Precision Layering A2 A Etched Dies
• Adhere mats to the card base.

Create squares:

• Cut solid squares with the Color Block Mini Squares set from Snowdrift
• Cut Color Block Mini Squares pieces from Snowdrift (twice), three shades of blue, and red.
• Adhere the largest square pieces to the bases as follows: dark blue, Snowdrift, medium blue, Snowdrift, light blue, red.
• Continue adhering squares, shifting the color by one. For example, with the second-largest piece, the Snowdrift square goes inside the dark blue one, the medium blue goes inside the Snowdrift one, and so forth.
• Adhere completed six squares to a card base.

Create sentiment:

• Glimmer foil sentiment on Snowdrift cardstock in Matte Silver with a plate in the Be Bold Glimmer Sentiments set and cut with coordinating die. Add to card with foam adhesive.

Other Supplies

Dark blue, medium blue, light blue, and red cardstock; foam adhesive For my final card, I used the Color Block Mini Diamonds set to create an argyle pattern, with an overlay on the diamonds.

Create diamond background:

• With the solid die in the Color Block Mini Diamond set, cut 25 dark teal diamonds.
• Cut 25 diamonds from light teal cardstock for the largest diamond pieces. Glue light teal piece to solid diamonds.
• Cut 13 diamonds from green cardstock for the second-largest diamond pieces. Glue to 13 of the diamonds from the previous step.
• Cut 13 diamonds from dark teal cardstock for the middle diamond pieces. Glue to the diamonds in the previous step.
• Tape diamonds together on the back. Adhere assembly to dark teal cardstock panel larger than A2-size (for stability and ease in positioning). Trim to A2-size.

Create overlay:

• Cut 13 diamonds from white cardstock for the largest and second-smallest pieces.
• Cut 13 diamonds from yellow cardstock for the smallest diamond pieces. Add yellow pieces inside the white, second-smallest diamonds, cut in the previous step. Adhere on back.
• Glue largest white diamonds to the background and trim excess on sides.
• Glue white-and-yellow diamonds to the points of intersection.
• Add panel to A2-size card base.

Create sentiment:

• Glimmer foil sentiment on Snowdrift cardstock in Matte Silver with a plate in the Be Bold Glimmer Sentiments set and cut with coordinating die. Add to card with foam adhesive.
