Creating an Ombré Background

Today I'm using the Floral Tile Bold Prints background to create a simple ombré background using four ink colors.

To create the background I slightly overlapped each color to create the seamless transition from one color to the next. The four ink colors I used are (from top to bottom) Bubble Gum, Ultra Pink, Pale Tomato and Soft Cantaloupe.

Next, I die-cut the A Bit of Kindness Fancy Die three times from dark grey layering paper from the Midnight Mixed Layering Papers pack. I adhered them all together to create a chunkier message that would have some dimension.

My plan was to put the die-cut message directly on the stamped background, but I felt that it didn't quite stand out enough. So I put a piece of vellum behind the message and that solved my problem. I stitched around the edge of the vellum with my sewing machine, which is a great way to adhere vellum without having to worry about adhesive showing through.

And then I finished off the card with some sparkle! I adhered some of the clear sequins from the new Seashore Sequin Mix from the 2018 Catalog. And used a Zig Wink of Stella Glitter Brush on the die=cut message.

Thanks for stopping by today!

AndreaH,

Kelly, such a great idea to sew on the vellum. Also I like how you cut out 3 of the sentiment and layered it. Does make it stand out nicely.

Pam Braithwaite,

LOVELY!!!

Cristina,

Really beautiful background. I’m not familiar with some of those ink colors but when I saw their names I had to take a closer look. Love the vellum between die cut and bg!

Beverly U,

Nice card! I love the background and the sentiment really stands out with the stitched vellum. Thanks for sharing!!
