Easy Mixed Media For Beginners

Hello there! Lisa Tilson here with you today to share a card that I think would be great for those wanting to dip their toes into Mixed Media but are a little bit nervous. In other words, me! So, I have created something that uses very basic techniques and only a few mediums. I am using the Spring Floral Cover Plate and I have used just two different colored sprays, plus some gold wax.

I began by taking the Spring Floral Cover Plate and die cutting it from an A2 panel of Deluxe Smooth White Cardstock. I popped out all the pieces using a pokey tool and then placed the die cut into my spray box. You could also use Luxe White Watercolor Paper but I found as I wasn't adding lots of mediums, the smooth white card worked just fine and I didn't get any warping. If you are adding lots of water and pastes you would definitely need to use a watercolour cardstock.

Next, I took the Fuchsia & Gold Two-Tone Metallic Spray and shook it well. I had previously added water to about two thirds of the way up the container. I spritzed it lightly to the side of my panel before spraying it twice onto two different areas of my panel. I kept the spray a fair distance away so that I wouldn't get too heavy a covering. I then repeated the process but this time using the Bright Yellow & Copper Two-Tone Metallic Spray.

I set the panel aside to dry and then I grabbed the Spring Floral Cover Plate Die again and this time I die cut it three times from Smooth White Cardstock and adhered all three panels together using Precision Glue XL.

Next, I adhered the stack of die cuts onto an A2 top folding black note card that I created from Pitch Black Cardstock.

Once my sprayed panel was dry I took some Gold Hero Wax and using my finger I applied a tiny amount around the center of each of the flowers. The shimmer of the wax is stunning alongside the flecks of gold from the sprays! This is fun!

The completed panel was then adhered onto my white die cut stack, but just slightly offset, so that you can see a white margin around the edge of it. This pop of white contrasts really well with the black card underneath. This card has lots of dimension as it has four layers and I think the white peeking out from under the sprayed panel helps to create the illusion of depth.

My sentiments are from It's Our Anniversary Stamp & Cut and they were stamped onto white card using Intens-ified Black Ink. I trimmed them down to size and added them onto the card using foam squares.

I finished by adding some Gold Mix Color Essential Gems from Spellbinders for a little bit of extra bling!

That finishes the card. As I said at the beginning, this card is for those who are at the start of their journey into the delights of mixed media. That person is definitely me but I really enjoyed playing with the sprays and that's what it's all about isn't it - having fun, playing and learning. I hope that you enjoy today's card and thank you for your time here with me on the blog today!
