I Woof You

Good morning! Jess here with an interactive pup-themed galaxy card using alcohol inks and our fun set, Mewn and Back! Our team has had a lot of fun creating galaxies with the latest My Monthly Hero kit and add-ons so if you don’t have alcohol inks you could follow their tutorials to create galaxies using watercolors, Distress Inks, Copics, or Distress Oxides.

To start I coated a piece of Yupo paper with blending solution. Then I dropped drops of alcohol ink across the paper and then used an air puffer to move the alcohol ink around. I also tilted the paper to get the ink to move. When I encountered areas where the ink stopped moving I’d add more blending solution. I also added a little silver and gold mixative solution to create a shimmer. Once I was satisfied with the background I let it dry completely. Then I added splatters of white paint to create stars. It’s definitely a much lighter galaxy than I’m used to creating but I really like how it turned out.

Next I stamped the moon from Mewn and Back onto Snow layering paper with Versafine and heat-embossed it with clear embossing powder. I colored it with Copic markers and then added a coating of Spectum Noir clear sparkle. I applied a layer of Nuvo crystal glaze across the moon and let it dry. I stamped the sentiment from Mewn and Back onto dark navy cardstock, heat-embossed it with white embossing powder, and trimmed it out into labels. Then I stamped the dog silhouette with Versamark on vellum and heat-embossed it with silver embossing powder before fussy-cutting him. Then I added a coating of Tonic crystal glaze to his helmet to give it a dimensional look. Unfortunately it really doesn’t photograph well but it looks really cute in person!

Next I took a small strip of acetate and adhered the dog and the curved sentiment to it. Then I punched a tiny hole midway down the strip and inserted a tiny brad. I punched the brad through the galaxy background and pushed the edges down to lock the brad. I tested it by swinging the acetate strip back and forth to make sure the dog would swing easily. Then I adhered the moon over the bottom of the galaxy card using foam mounting tape so it wouldn’t impede the swinging pup. Finally I adhered the rest of the sentiment with foam mounting tape and added a sprinkling of ombré purple sequins! I love how the main focus of the card is the bottom third but the galaxy background adds interest to the entire card panel.
