In the Spotlight: Mixed Frame Stencil

We are back for another product feature for our In the Spotlight series. In this series, we're shining a light on some of our favorite past Hero Arts products, showcasing their timeless appeal with a variety of inspiring card samples. See just how versatile and enduring these products truly are, and get fresh, unique ways to incorporate them into your cardmaking and crafting.

Today's feature is the Mixed Frame Stencil. This versatile design invites you to experiment with color, texture, and imagery as you fill its abstract blocks. Whether you prefer Pastes, Sprays, Waxes, or your favorite mixed media, this stencil offers endless possibilities for artistic expression.

Creative Team member, Rosie Lopez, has crafted three stunning cards to showcase just how fun and versatile the Mixed Frame Stencil can be in your cardmaking projects. She combined it with the Birthday Hero Transfers to create some colorful birthday creations that are sure to inspire.

The first card demonstrates the stencil used with Hero Glitter Paste. One of the fun aspects of using Transfers is their versatility—they can be applied either underneath or on top of the paste. For this card, Rosie placed the birthday cake Transfer underneath the paste, giving it a sparkly finish with added dimension. The sentiment, however, was applied over the dried paste, something you couldn’t achieve with a stamped message and still get such a crisp, clean result.

For the next two cards, Rosie used beautiful ink-blending techniques to create soft, eye-catching backgrounds. She started with a light blend of Purple Galaxy, Thistle, Blue Hawaii, and Berry Smoothie inks to lay down a subtle base. Then, placing the stencil over the top, she re-applied the same colors with a heavier hand. The result is a gorgeous tone-on-tone pattern that adds depth and interest without overpowering the design.

Here are two more card examples to fuel your creativity. The creative possibilities are endless!

The Mixed Frame Stencil is a must-have addition to your collection—one you’ll find yourself reaching for time and time again thanks to its versatility and striking design.

Happy crafting!
