Partial Stenciling for Halloween Cards

Hello! More often than not, when using a background stamp or a stencil, I use the complete design to cover a card base. However, using only a selective part of a stencil to create a partially stenciled background can produce equally wonderful results. So today I’m sharing a pair of Halloween cards with stenciled spider web borders.

To create my card, I secured one side of the center panel of the Spider Web Stencil along the lower edge of a white card base. Using orange ink and a sponge dauber, I applied ink over the stencil onto the lower few inches of the card, creating a stenciled spider web border that is beautiful, seasonal and not-so-scary. Then, using the Happy Halloween sentiment dies from the new Halloween Trimmings Stamp & Cut set, I cut the sentiment from a piece of trimmed black cardstock. I cut the sentiment a second time from orange glittered cardstock and then positioned the sentiment into the black panel, securing the sentiment and all of the small, black “filler” pieces with tape. I really love how the inlaid sentiment looks and it was so easy to do!

After securing the sentiment panel to the top of the card, I added a watercolored pumpkin, a pair of playful bats, and a few clear gemstones. Then, I embossed a small sentiment from the Halloween Trimmings Stamp & Cut set onto a cardstock strip and added it to the card front. If you look closely, you’ll see that I also made a matching gift tag – but this time I used a portion of the intricate frame on the Spider Web Stencil to create the border.

I made a second card using the same supplies but this time I secured the stencil to the upper edge of the card. I inked over the stencil with green ink and then die cut the sentiment with green glittered cardstock. I also replaced the pumpkin with a green watercolored leaf.
