One of my favorite stamp sets in the Summer 2017 Catalog (aside from the utterly hilarious Puffer Fish set) is the Color Layering Blue Whale set. Sentiments like “Sending Tons Of Love” or “Love You Big Time” make it particularly clever and very appealing for handmade cards.
When making this card I paired the Whale stamp set together with the Brushstroke Bold Prints background and stamped the latter in Deep Ocean color onto white paper. I cut a partial circle in my background and foam mounted it over an A2 top folding card base.
Prior to adhering my background I did some additional stamping using seaweed image from the Color Layering Sea Turtle set. The proportion of these images isn’t quite right, but I wanted to add some greenery to the background so I didn’t let that bother me.
To stamp the whale I used Deep Ocean, Navy and also Pool to Navy ombre inks. I cut my image out using coordinating dies and also die-cut a stamped diver and mermaid to complete my scene. The air bubbles coming from the whale were stamped using a lighter blue, Pool.
For my sentiment I went with Sending Tons Of Love and I heat embossed it in white embossing powder onto a strip of black cardstock. Finally I added several black accents using Nuvo drops in black.
