Video: Creating Interlocking Shaker Cards

Hello and welcome to the Hero Arts blog! Janette Kausen here today sharing how to create an interlocking shaker card featuring Wood Frame Infinity Dies , the You're Beautiful stamp set and a touch of easy peasy watercolor.

I've filmed a tutorial video you can view below:

If you have any trouble viewing the video, you can watch it here on YouTube.

I always love a shaker card, and today's is no exception! The Wood Frame Infinity Dies are perfect for creating a three chamber card. I used the same sequins and colors throughout, but changing it up for a three color variation would be a snap!

Begin by watercoloring two panels large enough to be die cut by Wood Frame Infinity Dies . Add a few water droplets to disperse color and let dry naturally or speed along with a heat tool.

Die cut two Wood Frame Infinity Dies from Hero Hues Dove White cardstock. Snip the top of the lower rectangle and adhere behind the larger. Add a dot of Precision Glue anywhere they overlap to keep them aligned.

Once watercolor panels are dry, trace outside of Wood Frame Rectangle Dies over the watercolor and trim about 1/8" smaller on all sides. Repeat with acetate by tracing or just visually. The borders of the dies are wide so they are quite forgiving.

Adhere acetate to back of frames, cutting one overlapping rectangle away in the center. Trim foam tape narrow enough to conceal behind frames and apply two layers, staggering seams. Be sure to nest seams tightly to prevent escapee sparkles. Add Icicle Sequins to wells just created. Remove foam tape release paper and adhere trimmed watercolor panels, facing front of shaker, sealing the sequins in place. Then adhere shaker assembly onto 4 1/4" x 5 1/2' (A2) Dove White cardstock panel.

Watercolor a few Intense Black stamped and Clear embossed You're Beautiful flowers. Add a double layer of foam tape to bring them to the same height as frames. Trim stems if necessary and tuck in place. White Detail heat emboss sentiment on Hero Hues Pitch Black cardstock and adhere in place. Adhere finished shaker panel to a folded card base and a few Ombre Sunshine sequins to up the yellow sparkle factor.

I’m going to try the shaker card. I just bought the frame dies last month and I used the big one to make an easel shaker card along with all the “craft” stamps.

Shirley Wallen,

I LOVE this one! The background, the shaker, the interlocking of the die cuts, it’s just fabulous. I’ve been wanting to get the wood frames, I think I have to now.

Stephanie B,

Very neat idea. I have never made a cad with the double shaker on it. Great video and thanks for sharing.

Stef Perry,
