I’m sharing my step-by-step process in easy-to-follow photos and instructions!
To start, we are going to ink blend the stencils in numbered order. Align stencil 1 over top of an A2-sized (4.25” x 5.5”) Classic White cardstock panel, then ink blend in dark gray ink. I prefer to use a grip mat when ink blending, but you can also adhere them in place with low-tack tape!
Align stencil 2 to the panel, then ink blend the dunes in sand brown and the sun in two shades of yellow. Use low-tack tape to mask the stencil opening as needed to avoid unwanted colors.
Align stencil 3 to the panel, then ink blend orange-red ink.
Align stencil 4 to the panel, then ink blend the dune details in dark brown ink and the canyon details in terracotta orange ink.
Align stencil 5, then ink blend the sky in aqua ink and the cacti in green ink. Remove the final stencil to reveal your finished background!
Next, we are going to diecut the Hot Rod Flames die set. To start, diecut the main car layers from Waterfall and Teal Topaz cardstock.
Diecut the tires from black, the undershadow & sidestep from Anchor cardstock, tire details from Antique White mirror metallic cardstock, and the headlights from Antique White glitter metallic cardstock.
Diecut the flames from Carrot & Saffron cardstock, the remaining card details from Gold Matte Metallic cardstock, and the grill cover from Brushed Gold cardstock.
Assemble the main parts of the card, using the embossed lines on the largest background piece to help place each element.
Start adhering the smaller, detailed die-cut elements to the car. It’s important to adhere the headlights before adding the grill pieces, to make the overlapping look correct. I find it helpful to use the Pick Up Tool from the Handy Craft Tool Set to adhere these smaller pieces into place.
TIP: I didn’t align the back tire very well, and a little bit of the blue car was showing below the tire. I used scissors to snip away that little bit of blue stick out, and no one will ever know I made a small mistake!
Stamp the sentiment from the Road Trip Adventures stamp set in black directly to the top of the ink blended background.
Note: this stamp set does have a coordinating die set, so if you would rather stamp to separate cardstock and diecut, please feel free!
Adhere the ink blended background directly to a landscape A2 card base cut and folded from Classic White cardstock.
Glue the assembled Hot Rod Flames card, aligned towards the bottom of the card.
To finish, accent the sun, flames & rearview mirror with Aura AB gems. I like to use the Precision Tool from the Handy Craft Tool Setto help adhere those tiny gems!
I hope you enjoyed seeing this classic car card come to life! I had so much fun ink blending this desert scene, and I hope I help show how easy it is to do!
