Delightful Daisies

Hello crafters! It’s Lisa Tilson here with you again on the Spellbinders blog. I’m thrilled to be here to share some ways to use Yana’s Daisies Collection with you. This is a lovely collection by Yana Smakula that includes a couple of press plates with coordinating stencils, a set of etched dies, a 3D embossing folder and a set of BetterPress sentiments. I often talk about double the fun with press plates as they can be foiled as well as pressed and they give stunning results whatever technique you choose. There is also another way to use them and I cover that later in this post! There are so many types of daisies aside from the common white version, that I decided to go all out pink today!

HELLO

For my first card, I am using Yana’s Daisies Etched Dies and the Molded Frame 3D Embossing Folder along with a sentiment from Crafty Hugs Sentiments Press Plate and Die Set. I always love to create flowers using these beautiful outline dies whether I’m ink blending, Copic colouring, or just inlaying with different colours of cardstock. You get two dies in the set. One cuts the outline piece and the other cuts the shadow. I also think this embossing folder is going to become a staple in my stash – I love the idea of adding an embossed frame around my focal point and this folder gives your projects a super modern vibe.

1. Emboss the Molded Frame 3D Embossing Folder using Seaside Colorwheel Cardstock.

Tip: Spritz the panel with water before embossing. This helps stop the paper from cracking and gives you a deeper impression.

2. Using a small round brush add some gold splatter across the panel. I used a Number 2 Round Brush and Champagne Gold paint from the Gansai Tambi Starry Colours palette. I directed most of the splatter across the bottom corners and the top right of the panel, however, a few splatters flew elsewhere!
3. Let the panel dry and then adhere it onto an A2 side folding white note card using Bearly Art Glue.

4. Next, I die cut the shadow die from Yana’s Daisies Etched Dies from vellum. I also die cut the outline die from 80lb white card and then again from the brushed metallic card from Gold Assortment Treasured Cardstock.

Tip: add Best Ever Craft Tape to the back of your white card before you die cut. This will help hold the little pieces in their outer frame which makes them easier to colour and then inlay back into the outline die cut.

5. Colour the petals using Copic Markers RV00 and RV02.
6. Adhere the gold outline die cut onto the vellum die cut using Bearly Art Glue.
7. Adhere all your coloured petals into the gold frame using glue.
8. Die cut the flower centres from the glitter metallic card in Gold Assortment Treasured Cardstock and then adhere them on top.

9. Foil the “hello” sentiment from Crafty Hugs Sentiments Press Plate and Die Set onto white card using Matte Gold Glimmer Hot Foil and the Glimmer Hot Foil System.
10. Cut it out with the coordinating die and then cut an extra layer from white card.
11. Adhere the two layers together to make a small stack and then glue it onto your panel to finish the card.

SENDING LOVE & HUGS

For my second card, I used the Daisy Shower BetterPress and Stencil Bundle, along with a sentiment from Crafty Hugs Sentiments Press Plate and Die Set.

1. Adhere a panel of Porcelain Cardstock to the platen of your BetterPress Letterpress System. Tip: I used a temporary adhesive for this as I wanted my ink to cover the full and not miss the small areas where ordinarily my yellow tape would have been.
2. Place the Daisy Shower Press Plate down onto the magnetic platform and ink it up with BetterPress Black Ink.

Tip: Re-ink your ink pad before applying ink. It will make covering this plate so much easier and you will get a much better press. In fact, whenever you are pressing any very solid large BetterPress plates, re-ink the pad first. You will get a much more even coverage.

3. Pop the platen back on top of the magnetic platform and run the sandwich through your Platinum 6 Die Cutting Machine.

4. Place the pressed panel onto a sticky mat and then place your first stencil on top.
5. Using blending brushes, blend Leaf BetterPress Ink through it.
6. For Stencil 2, blend a light layer of Taffy BetterPress Ink.
7. Using Stencil 3, blend a heavier layer of Taffy followed by some Hero Arts Raspberry Jam Core Ink to deepen the areas around the flower centres.
8. Darken some petals and some areas of the stems further using Faber Castell Polychromos Leaf Green and Magenta pencils.
9. For Stencil 4 blend Peridot and Leaf BetterPress Inks for the flower centres.
10. Adhere your finished panel onto a top folding A2 white note card.

11. Cut a white frame using Essential Arches Etched Dies and adhere it on top using foam tape.
12. Finish by pressing a sentiment from Crafty Hugs Sentiments Press Plate and Die Set onto Porcelain Cardstock using BetterPress Black Ink and then cut it out with the coordinating die.
13. Add this onto your card using thin foam tape.
14. Finish the card by adding Pink Color Essential Gems around the panel for a bit of sparkle.

HELLO

Did you know that you can use your press plates to dry emboss? Well, you absolutely can! Press them without any ink and you get a beautiful embossed impression. My final card uses the Daisy Trio BetterPress and Stencil Bundle along with a sentiment from Crafty Hugs Sentiments Press Plate and Die Set.

1. Start off by placing the Daisy Trio Press Plate onto the magnetic platform of the BetterPress Letterpress system.
2. Tape a panel of Porcelain Cardstock to the platen.
3. Pop the platen back onto the platform and run the sandwich through your die-cutting machine.

Tip: add extra shims to get a deeper impression. You may need to play around with how many you need.

4. Place the embossed panel onto a sticky mat and place Stencil 1 on top.
5. Using blending brushes apply Tuscan and Peridot BetterPress Inks for the flower centres and then apply Leaf ink for the stems

6. Next, apply a light layer of Taffy Ink through Stencil 2.
7. For Stencil 3, apply a darker layer of Taffy Ink and then add Hero Arts Raspberry Jam Core Ink on top to darken the areas around the flower centres.
8. Stencil 4 gives you a beautiful shadow around the daisies and for this I used a very light application of Thunder BetterPress Ink.
9. Trim the panel down using a Paper Trimmer and then splatter Black Soot Distress Ink over it.

10. Let the panel dry and then adhere it to an A2 top folding note card using foam tape.
11. Press a sentiment from Crafty Hugs Sentiments Press Plate and Die Set onto Porcelain Card using BetterPress Black Ink and cut it out with the coordinating die
12. Cut an extra layer of the sentiment from white card and adhere them together using wet adhesive before adding it onto your card.
13. Finish by adding Berry Color Essential Gems for some sparkle.
