Pretty in Pink with On Your Wedding Day Collection
Hey there, crafty friends! Marie here again from Marie Nicole Designs. I am thrilled to be back on the Spellbinders blog to bring you several card designs I crated using the On Your Wedding Day collection!
This is a Better Press plate collection featuring the calligraphy of Paul Antonio. The skillful lettering is absolutely beautiful and lends itself well to these wedding-themed cards.
I chose a few shades of pink for my cards, but you could easily change the colors to suit the theme of any wedding you may be creating these for. A few of the sentiments aren’t specifically wedding, either, so don’t feel like these sentiments are ONLY for weddings. They’re not!
For this first card, I used some lighter and then darker pink to ink blend the background. I blended the colors in the middle to give the whole background panel a color graduation.
I then wanted to add some detail to the background but didn’t want anything too bold to compete with the sentiment. So I grabbed a background Hot Foil plate and ran it through my Platinum 6 with NO FOIL. This just pressed the design into the paper without adding any foil. I love stretching my supplies so using a plate for embossing helped me achieve my design goals here!
I then cut out a panel of cardstock using some Nested Arches dies. I added just a bit of the light pink to the bottom of this cardstock panel, and then used the On Your Wedding Day sentiment Better Press plate with some foil to foil the sentiment over it.
Did you know you can use Better Press plates to foil? You use it just the same way as you would use a foiling plate. Heat it up on your Glimmer platform, add your foil, and press it by running it through your Platinum Machine!
For this second card, I wanted a cut-out window that the sentiment could shine through. So I used one of the Essential Hearts dies to cut out this window. Then, I added color using the same hues of pink again.
When I make multiples of cards at the same time, I like to keep the same color scheme and similar designs. When I’m finished, I have a set of cards that coordinate beautifully. You can give the set as a gift OR just have multiples of similar cards.
Next, I added texture to the pink card panel by using a 3D Embossing Folder, Cross My Heart. I thought this fun design went well with the wedding theme I was working with.
I then measured out where I wanted the sentiment to be placed so that you could see it through the heart cut-out, and then foiled this Better Press plate, as well. The gold foil just looks so pretty with the pinks!
To finish this card, I added a fun wax seal off to the side of the heart. I mixed some pearl wax with some gold glitter and I think it just looks so pretty.
Here is my third and final card. I again used the two pinks I’ve been ink blending with, but I masked off half my background with tape and color-blocked with my ink this time. I love that sharp line and the contrast between the two colors.
I knew I wanted to use the heart shape that was left over from the previous card, so I took note of where I wanted to place it, and then used a Better Press plate to press some florals onto the background. The flowers help frame the heart.
I again foiled the sentiment, and then added the heart over the background using foam adhesive for some dimension. I also added another wax seal because I just love the look!
That finished these three pretty pink wedding cards! Or love cards, if you’d rather.
