Bright Watercolor Flowers

Happy first day of Summer! One of my favorite things about summer is that all of my flower pots are in full bloom. I love the brights pops of color that line my front porch and wish they could last all year. But unfortunately living in Nebraska, that isn't a possibility. However, it is possible to create a card anytime of the year that reminds me of those beautiful bright blooms.

Today I've used two amazing floral stamp sets to create my card, Flowers for Coloring and Blossoms for Coloring. Both of these sets are overflowing with flower and leaf images that intermingle great with each other.

I started out by stamping a bunch of flowers and leaves onto watercolor paper using Intense Black Ink, which is a permanent waterproof ink that is great for watercoloring. Then I used the coordinating dies to die cut the images.

I colored the images using ZIG Clean Color Real Brush Markers and a water brush. I simply scribbled some color on the flower or leaf with the marker and then used a water brush to blend it out. In places where I wanted more vibrant colors, I applied more color over the top once it was dry and blended it out again. Using a good quality watercolor paper will allow you to apply multiple layers of coloring without your paper starting to pill.

Next, I prepped a white card base by using a stylus and and scoring board to create an embossed border around the edge. Then I played with the layout of the flower arrangement and once I was happy with it I began adhering the flowers and leaves. Most of the flowers were popped up with some foam adhesive and the leaves were adhered directly to the card base.

Since birthday cards are my #1 type of card that I am always in need of, I decided to add a message using sayings from the Hand Drawn Everyday Messages and Birthday Hugs and Kisses sets.

Then to finish off the card I added some tiny sequins and some black dots to fill in around the flowers and leaves. Little details like this make the card feel complete!

Hope you have a bright + cheery day!
