CLEVER CRAFTS: Chalkboard Art

Welcome back to Clever Crafts! This series is all about thinking outside the box and making the most of what you have—pairing your Hero Arts products with creative (and maybe unexpected!) materials from around the house. Whether you're stretching your stash or looking for fresh ideas, we’re here to turn limitations into inspiration—one clever idea at a time.

Hello! Anna here with another clever craft project. This month, I am showing how to turn an ordinary chipboard clipboard into something decorative yet functional. All you need is your favorite Hero Arts stamps and items you can find in any art or office supply store.

First. I took an ordinary clipboard made out of chipboard and masked off the steel clip with washi tape. Then I applied three coats of chalkboard paint with a foam brush, making sure the paint was dry between coats.

Once the clipboard has completely dried, I prepped it with anti-static powder. I mounted the border stamps from the Valentine Wreath Stamp Set on an acrylic block and stamped them at the corners of the clipboard with Clear Embossing & Watermark Ink. Then I sprinkled it generously with White Detail Embossing Powder and heat set it using a heat tool.

Next, I used a white chalk marker to write a to do list. I prefer to use a chalk marker over regular chalk as I can erase easily with baby wipes or a damp rag without the chalk dust getting all over the place.

If you are good at handlettering or calligraphy, you could write an inspirational quote for your craft room or create a daily menu board and hang in your kitchen. If you want to use it as a clipboard, then you could decorate the whole board with your favorite stamped images. Those are just some of the many ideas for this project. If you do get to try it, tag us on social media, we would love to see what you create!

Have a wonderful crafty day!
