Special Guest: Jenn Shurkus!

Today we have a special treat! Jenn Shurkus is sharing a guest post, creating holiday cards with her own personal style! Jenn uses Distress Oxide inks on her projects, but our Reactive Inks would be a similar alternative, and of course our regular dye inks in a variety of colors work beautifully for color layering, too. Take it away, Jenn...

Hello everyone! Jenn Shurkus here, I am wicked excited to share with you a few cards I made with the Color Layering Peace stamp set! I love to create holiday cards that have a non-traditional feel, but it was also easy to switch up the design and colors for more traditional.

Using pinks and reds (Worn Lipstick and Festive Berries Distress Oxide) I layered the word "Peace". Then for some simple embellishments I used leaf sprigs from the Build a Tree stamp set, I stamped these in Pine Needles Distress Oxide on Distress Watercolor Cardstock. Using a waterbrush I pulled the color from the stamped lines.

For the more traditional card I stamped the same sentiment, this time in Festive Berries Distress Oxide. Then, the layered part of "peace" I use a Deco Foil Adhesive Pen directly to the stamp. Once dry I rubbed Gold foil onto it. Note: be sure to clean your stamp right away so you don't leave behind any adhesive residue.

To push the non traditional envelope a bit more, I HAD to create a rainbow card! I ink blended a rainbow background (Picked Raspberry, Spiced Marmalade, Mustard Seed, Twisted Citron, Peacock Feathers Distress Inks) and then stamped the sentiment with black and gray. To add in a pop of purple I stamped and die cut some snowflakes from Build a Tree.

These cards are perfect to send throughout the holidays and into the new year! I hope they have inspired you and will encourage you to create a few more holiday cards for your friends & family! Thank you Hero Arts for having me!

Thanks Jenn! Happy stamping!

What a great modern Christmas card!

Bonnie Reyes,

Like all the cards but the rainbow one gives me the most inspiration. With just a bit of tweaking you could make the background look like the “Northern Lights”. Thanks Jen.
