Creating a Galaxy Focal Point - Hero Arts

Creating a Galaxy Focal Point

Hello there, Michelle here and today I am using the new You're My Universe set, which is one of the fantastic add-ons this month. I thought it would be fun to create a galaxy background to go along with the sentiment, but I did not want it to fill up the whole card. That's where creating a background on a smaller shape works well to draw your eye in to a focal point.

I started off by creating the galaxy background. I took the Tag Fancy Die and die cut it from watercolor paper. I then messily added drops of liquid watercolor on top. I used Pink, Purple and Dark Teal and moved them around with a paint brush. I then added Black Liquid Watercolor around the brighter colours and filled in all of the gaps. I dried the first layer with a heat tool and then added a second layer of the same colours to intensify and deepen them.

I took White Glimmer Metallic Ink and splattered it over the tag and then left it to dry. Once dry, I added twine through the top and added it to a top folding card base that has a panel of Decorative Woodgrain Cardstock adhered to the front, with foam tape.

I took the sentiment from the You're My Universe set and stamped it on to Pitch Black Premium Cardstock using Clear Embossing & Watermark Ink. I applied White Detail Embossing Powder, heat set and cut it in to a strip.

The sentiment was added to the card with thin foam tape. I took the stars from the You're My Universe Frame Cuts and cut them from silver glitter cardstock. They were then added to the card with more thin foam tape.

Although the woodgrain cardstock doesn't necessarily fit in with the theme of the card, I thought it worked well to give some subtle interest on the card base. Thank you so much for stopping by today, take care!
