Today we are checking in with our friend Milagros, to see what her creative brain has come up with next! It's always a delight to see our products in a whole new way, from the mind of Milagros!
I am a watercolorist at heart and try to defy the odds as to what the medium can give me. Among my favorites in my watercolor stash are the Hero Arts Liquid Watercolors. They have a beautiful saturation and run with water like nothing else. So how about stamping with them?
I'll be working with Watercolor Paper for this project. I recommend you find a smooth grain to get a better stamped image. I put a few drops of Teal Liquid Watercolor on a distress sponge and swiped over the stamp from Barrel Wave HeroScape. I did this in my MISTI to help ensure good coverage. I used Deep Ocean for my other color.
Now you can use a paint brush with water to move some of the watercolor in the ocean for more coverage.
Next, outline the outside of the wave with a paintbrush wet with water to create the sky. When you drop the watercolor it will stay contained on the parts of the paper you got wet. Just like magic!
For the sky I used Indigo and a very wet brush to hurry and move the color upwards. I also painted the circle at the end of the wave because that is the sky peeking through and helps you preserve the white of the wave foam spray!
Now let's work on our surfing girl! Apply directly the Pink Liquid Watercolor to the surfboard part of the stamp. We’re doing body surfing today!
Stamp it several times it will give you around four sets of boards. You can make several cards, or simply pick your favorite to use.
I’m a huge fan of the tiny people in the Looking Glass dies and always try to find different ways they can work with my scenes. Today I'm turning Flying Girl into a body surfer. This one can also be a deep sea diver (she’s rescued a giant pearl at my craft table in the past!).
To make the transformation, start by die cutting her in watercolor paper. Use a pencil to trace her feet. Also use a pencil to draw on her hair and bikini.
Now carefully take your scissors and cut out her skirt following the bikini line.
I love using Coffee Liquid Watercolor for the skin and hair. Use the tiniest amount and water it down for her skin and then use it undiluted for the hair when the skin is dry. Polka dots were done in white with a gel pen.
Remember the feet outline? Extend them to create fins and paint them with Black or whatever color you prefer.
Cut out the body board and glue her going down the wave!!!! Here's a look at our finished scene:
