National Hispanic Heritage Month

Yesterday marked the start of National Hispanic Heritage Month! To honor and celebrate the contributions of the Hispanic community, we will be highlighting some wonderful individuals in the crafty world during the next several weeks. Please join us in welcoming Luisa Elena Guillén-K. to the blog today!

Luisa Elena Guillén-K. is an artist originally from Mérida, Venezuela and has devoted her life towards her passion—the arts. Although an artist of multiple artistic techniques and styles, Luisa has dedicated her talents to the realm of paper arts, with the intention of celebrating life events and everyday lifestyle. As a proud Latina artist, she has designed projects, artistic lines, and products all with the intention of celebrating her culture, and unifying underrepresented communities through art.

Her background as a designer of luxury invitations, calligrapher, scrapbooking specialist, and acrylic and watercolor artist can be seen as influences in her work, often inspiring her towards creating elegant yet fun and unique designs. Known for her workshops in a variety of Latin American countries, Luisa creates events with the hopes of teaching others her techniques, while igniting creativity. Through her story, Luisa hopes to inspire others to pursue their passion, and “create” their destiny.

Luisa has created a gorgeous die-cut project and photo tutorial to share with you today. Take it away, Luisa!

When I received these wonderful dies from the Hero Arts winter collection, I was so happy and immediately started getting inspired by many different ways to use them. I have created a lovely holiday card using:

DI716 Oval Woodgrain Frames Infinity Dies
DI707 Tri-fold Edge Winter Pine Fancy Dies
SB262 Snowy Town Combo

Your family and friends will be very happy to receive it and it may also be framed or used on your scrapbook page. Here, I show you how to start making this card using these dies and supplies:

I cut the large oval frame with white, navy blue and gold cardstocks. For the card base, fold in half a piece of white cardstock. I cut it to 6" x 8 1/2" and fold it in half. (Blue strip: 6" x 1/4". Gold strip: 6" x 1/8".) Stamp a sentiment on a strip of white cardstock with blue ink. I stamped “Warm Winter Wishes” from SB262 Snowy Town Combo.

Cut the ovals using the DI716 Oval Woodgrain Frames Infinity Dies in white and gold as shown. Glue white frame on top of gold one

Glue navy blue oval to the gold oval.

Glue frame to card. Adhere ovals with 3D foam tape squares.

Die cut white and gold ovals with DI707 Tri-fold Edge Winter Pine Fancy Dies.

Remove the top from die cuts and with your scissor or pick the negative from tree holes. Keep the leftover small dot pieces from the white trees, we will be using these to imitate snow.

Adhere with glue the white to the gold tree die cuts.

Attach your layering trees to the navy blue oval.

To mimic the look of snow, place the small white dots from the trees.

Complete the card by adding the strips of navy blue, gold, sentiment and another blue card inside. (6 1/4" x 5 1/2")

This card can be changed up by using different colors of cardstock as shown.

Enjoy this Holiday Card tutorial and make some more projects.

Big thanks to Luisa for treating us all to this beautiful winter cardmaking inspiration today. Follow her here on Instagram for more wonderful projects!
