Mixed Media Experiments and a Card 'For The Guys'!

Good morning! Jess here with a card in nothing resembling my usual style...and I kinda love it! I've been super inspired by the gorgeous mixed media projects that Maria creates and wanted to give it a try. I have a long way to go in releasing control and just going with the flow but I was pleasantly surprised at how today's card turned out! And it is just perfect for our current Stay Crafty with Hero Challenge: For the Guys.

I started with an A2 panel of Lapis cardstock. It's hard to tell but it's under there! Ha! I swiped my Cornflower ink pad across the panel randomly to build up a little color. Then I added a few swipes of Navy ink as well. Then I placed the Streamer Stencil over the panel and blended a little Navy ink over the stencil in random areas with a blending brush. Then I blended more Navy ink and Intens-ified Black ink around the edges of the panel.

While the inked background was drying I stamped two of the sentiments from Birthday Stamp & Cut XL onto Lapis cardstock with Embossing & Watermark ink and heat-embossed it with Brass embossing powder. Then I trimmed them down to thin labels. Next I die-cut the 'celebrate' word from Birthday Stamp & Cut XL and pressed my Embossing & Watermark ink pad over it. I sprinkled it with Brass embossing powder and heat set it to create a sparkly sentiment. I repeated the process again to get a thick chipboard like sentiment. Once my inked panel was dry I swiped my Embossing & Watermark ink pad over the panel and heat-embossed it with Brass embossing powder. Then I placed the Streamer stencil over the panel again and applied a shiny blue paste in a few random areas. I splattered the panel with watered down Gold Metallic Glimmer ink and let it dry. Once it was totally dry I adhered the sentiments onto the panel and finished it with a few blue enamel dots.

Again, very much not my usual style but I had a lot of fun creating the card and I hope it inspires you to break out of your usual style! Thanks so much for stopping by and don't forget to check out the current Stay Crafty with Hero Challenge and enter by July 8 for a chance to win a Hero Arts gift card!

Have a wonderful day!
