Paper Layering Heart Valentines

One of my favorite Valentine's Day memories is exchanging valentine cards with my grade school classmates. Once I got to junior high, I continued to exchange cards with my close friends. So when my seventh grade niece asked me to make her some special valentines for her friends, I knew that I wanted to use the hero_product_link sku="DI162"] to create cards that could be easily duplicated.

I absolutely adore the Hero Arts hero_product_link sku="DI162"]! When used with Hero Arts layering papers, which are white on one side, this "half" fancy die can be folded back to reveal a colorful, heart shape. For my card, I selected a piece of hero_product_link sku="PS619" text="iris"] layering paper. I positioned the heart die on the white side of the paper, along a center line, and then ran the paper through my die cutting machine. When I removed the die and folded every other "half heart" to the right side of the paper, it revealed a stunning purple and white heart. So easy and so beautiful! To add more color to the heart, I layered it over a piece of pink paper.

To easily attach these layers, I simply machine-stitched the hero_product_link sku="G6071"] sentiment banner over the other two layers ... the sentiment, the die cut heart, and the pink background panel. No adhesive was necessary! I love how easily this design can be modified by simply using different colors of Hero Arts layering papers and unique sentiment stamps. I wrapped the card with a yellow twine bow, and then, for a bit of cuteness, I added a single penguin from the hero_product_link sku="DC165"]. And, because this is a valentine, I couldn't resist stamping a single hero_product_link sku="DC172" text="heart"] on his chest. It's a tiny detail, but perfect for the occasion!

I made a second card with a few simple changes. This time, I die cut the hero_product_link sku="DI162"] on the white side of red layering paper and backed the heart with a lavender paper panel. I embossed a sentiment from the hero_product_link sku="CL867"] stamp set and then colored and fussy-cut another adorable hero_product_link sku="DC165" text="penguin"]. I love the thought that this penguin might be "fluttering" his flippers for his valentine. Have you made your valentines yet? Wishing you a wonderful and crafty week!
