Prayers and Love

Today’s card is one you can share with a loved one who is going through a time of sadness or loss. Although this type of card can be difficult to make, I find it a bit easier to create several in one sitting and keep them on hand. A simple and elegant look is often best for cards like these, and that is exactly the direction I took with this design that features a die cut window, a die cut sentiment, and Color Layered flowers.

Prayers and Love by Tami Hartley for Hero Arts

To get started, I used the gorgeous Floral Border with Frame Fancy Die to cut an opening into an off-white cardstock panel. I then backed the window with our new Decorative Woodgrain Vellum. This paper is semi-transparent and feels similar to parchment paper. It looks great inked, although for this design I kept it bare and adhered it on top of orange cardstock (yes there is orange hidden underneath!) to emphasize the pattern. In the lower right corner of the photo above, you can see how the Woodgrain Vellum looks on top of gray cardstock. Inking brings the pattern out even more. I hope to share that another day.

The flowers on this card are from the new Color Layering Poppy stamp set. It was the first time I’d used it and I was so pleased with the results and how easy the stamps were to line up. I chose three complementary ink colors from the Rose Petals Cube Pack — Cotton Candy, Pale Tomato, and Red Royal. The die-cut “prayers” and the “and love” message come from the Prayers Stamp & Cut set.

I think the Floral Border with Frame Fancy Die would make beautiful Easter cards as well.

I hope you enjoyed today’s project. Thanks so much for stopping by. Happy March!
