September My Monthly Hero Countdown: Idea #3 + Giveaway!

Hi, we are back with another Countdown to Creativity post before launching our September My Monthly Hero Kit and add-ons on Tuesday, September 5th at 1pm Eastern/10am Pacific. We'll be giving away one kit on Tuesday morning, before the kit launches, so be sure to comment on every Countdown post for the most chances to win! Now, join Jess as she shares a kitty card using some of the stamps from the add-ons to this month's kit.

Good morning! This month's kit is very appropriately autumn themed with sunflowers and pumpkins but I wanted to veer a little more towards Halloween with two fabulous add-on items: Luna the Halloween Cat and the Starry Night Brush Strokes Bold Prints background stamp!

I just love the pose of that cat! Looks just like mine before she does something sassy like knock a jar of embossing powder off the table or step in wet watercolor...anyone else familiar with that pose? *sigh*

To create the background I started by masking off a section of an A2 panel with post-it tape. Then I blended Faded Jeans and Wilted Violet Distress Oxide inks in a random pattern across the section. I let that dry for a few minutes and then spritzed the Starry Nights background stamp with shimmer spray and used my MISTI to stamp it over the Distress Oxides. It's hard to see in the photo but where the shimmer spray touched the ink, it lightened and left a gorgeous shimmery design behind. I blotted off the excess spray with a paper towel and let it dry completely.

Once the background was totally dry I stamped the cat and sentiment from Luna the Halloween Cat onto the panel with Versafine and heat-embossed it with clear embossing powder. Finally I added a few sparkling clear and metallic silver sequins in a shape that follows one of the swirls of the background stamp!

Win a kit before you can buy it! Just leave a comment on this (and every) Countdown to Creativity post! We'll randomly draw one lucky winner from all of the comments left across all countdown posts and announce the winner first thing Tuesday morning, September 5th, before the kit launches at 1pm Eastern. The more you comment, the more chances to win!

Thanks so much for stopping by! Be sure to come back later today for additional Countdown posts with more inspiration!

I am too late to win a free kit…but very excited to get my first monthly kit delivered. I have been waiting a few weeks for this kit to be released….the wonderful cards make me want the add more and more than my kit!
I’m hoping I can duplicate some of the wonderful ideas from this design team. You think this cat set us almost a must.
Thank you for your awesome card :)

Cheri H,

The sequins you added, Jess, look like stars against the dark sky!
So pretty with the silhouette of the cat!

Linda Miltzow,

That is definately the “I didn’t do it” pose!

Sandy Small,

Very ethereal…lovely combination of colors. Both stamps are must haves.

Elaine H.,

Wow I can just know what my grandchildren would love about your use of the cat and background it great

How to make a Polar Bear Christmas Card with Alcohol Markers

Hello, cardmaking friends! It’s Mona Tóth here, and I’m so happy to be back on the Spellbinders blog. Today, I’m sharing a Christmas step-by-step card tutorial featuring the Polar Friends Stamp and Die Set by Simon Hurley. This card was inspired by the Christmas advertisements I remember seeing on television when I was a child in the 1990s. They often featured polar bears surrounded by...
