Sunflower Stem Background with Liquid Watercolors

Hello friends! Nichol here today with a card featuring an all over background pattern created with the Hero Florals Sunflower Stem Stamp and colored in with Liquid Watercolors.

Creating my own "patterned paper" designs from stamps is one of my go-to favorite techniques. For this beautiful background, I repeatedly stamped the Hero Florals Sunflower Stem Stamp all over a piece of watercolor cardstock using Versamark Ink, and heat embossed the images with White Detail Embossing Powder.

The sunflowers were colored in with a combination of Dandelion and Cocoa Liquid Watercolors and the leaves were colored with a combination of Moss and Pine Liquid Watercolors. A water flow brush was used to apply the color to the embossed images. A color wash of Deep Ocean Liquid Watercolor was applied around the images to finish the background.

The Hello Stamp & Cut die was die cut from smooth white cardstock five times and adhered one on top of another for a dimensional sentiment that pops off the busy background.

A phrase from the Hello Stamp & Cut was stamped on a Foliage Mix Layering Paper using Versamark Ink and heat embossed with White Detail Embossing Powder before being trimmed into a thin strip and adhered underneath the dimensional die cut greeting with foam adhesive.

I finished the design with a scattering of Ombre Green Sequins.

I hope this has inspired you to try your hand at creating your own custom backgrounds out of your favorite stamped images! Have a super day!

This is a beautiful card and you are very talented. I could never make that look so pretty. Tip of the hat to you!

Lesli B,

Love this! I always forget about letting the background shine on it’s own

Cindy L Winston,

I usually don’t like sequins and green is not one of my go to colors, but I must admit I really like this card and your choice of colors. It makes a charming “end of summer” card and the sequins are a must!

Lorna S,

I love the variety of stamps in this kit and all the fun examples you’ve given us. Thank you for sharing with us.

Jackie,

So beautiful and so inspiring. I can see a dozen different card designs coming from the ideas presented here. Thanks for sharing.
