Video: Using a Hot Foil Plate for Dry Embossing

Hey there, friend! Daniel West, here, with a great way to use the Hero Arts Hot Foil Plates without foil! We always like to use our supplies in creative ways to get the most out of them. In today's video tutorial, I will show you how to use the Circle Confetti Hot Foil Plate for a dry embossed background.

Check out the video here:

If you are having trouble viewing the video, you can watch it here on YouTube.

For this project, I used these supplies:

  1. HF101 Circle Confetti Hot Foil Plate
  2. SB327 Finch Greetings Bundle
  3. AF345 Intense Black Ink
  4. PS325 Dove White Cardstock
  5. GW102 Precision Glue XL
  6. CH313 Icicle Sequins Mix
  7. Copic Markers – R89, R29, R27, R24, YG99, YG95, W10, W7, W4, Y38
  8. Foam Tape
  9. Fun Foam

You may need these tips for getting a great dry embossed impression.

Tip #1 – Follow your die cutting machine's instructions for dry embossing. You may need a paper shim or two depending on your particular machine.

Tip #2 – If you want a shallower impression, use your foiling sandwich instead of an embossing sandwich.

Tip #3 – Mist your cardstock with water on both sides before running it through the machine to prevent cracking your paper.

Tip #4 – When you want to emboss a die cut shape, create the shape first and then emboss it to avoid flattening out your embossed impression.

Tip #5 – Don't forget to move your plate around at different angles for a partial embossed look.

After playing around and making a card with the oval die cut background, I ended up with three backgrounds left over for other projects. Which one of these backgrounds speaks to you the most? Let me know in the comments section below.

I hope you enjoyed the video tutorial. I just love the look of bright red against the white background and the textured die cut oval. If you feel inspired to pick up these supplies, we have listed them in the grid below for your convenience.

Have a wonderful week.
