You Are Something Magical

Before creating today’s card, I looked up the definition of the word “magical”. Although there are many different meanings, I think that my favorite definition for magical is “surprisingly wonderful”. So, with that definition in mind, I decided to create an unexpectedly colorful, shaker card.

I started by trimming a panel of white cardstock to cover the front of a white card base. Then, I selected eight ink colors for my background – Pale Tomato, Soft Cantaloupe, Butter Bar, Green Hills, Tide Pool, Cornflower, Passion Flower, and Bubble Gum. Using strips of removable paper tape and a foam applicator, I masked and inked eight sections of the background.

I simply placed a piece of paper tape along the vertical center line and another piece along the horizontal center line. In the exposed corner, I placed a third piece of tape, laying it between the center point and the outer corner. Then, one-by-one, I inked each section of the background with a different ink color, repositioning the tape each time.

The result is a beautiful pinwheel of fun colors. I secured the inked panel to the card base. Next, I trimmed a piece of white cardstock and a piece of acetate slightly smaller than the card front. Using the Nesting Clouds Infinity Dies, I die cut one large cloud from the white cardstock to create a cloud-shaped frame. Then, I embossed the gorgeous, Something Magical sentiment, designed by Clare Prezzia, onto the center of the acetate.

I secured the cloud frame to the acetate and then covered the back with foam tape, ensuring that the tape created a completely enclosed space within the cloud’s perimeter. I poured a small collection of Ombre Sunshine sequins onto the card’s center and then secured the sentiment panel to the card over the sequins.

I added a pair of tiny clouds from the Sun Showers set that I stamped with Pale Tomato and Passion Flower inks. Using the same stamp set, I finished the card with a few small stars that I stamped with Cornflower ink.

Wishing you a magical, or surprisingly wonderful, day! Happy crafting!
