Holiday Medley Inspiration with Laura Evangeline

Hello, crafty friends! I am Laura Evangeline, and I am excited to join you here as a returning guest blogger. If you missed my last post, you can check it out here. Today I am playing with the new Holiday Medley collection by Becca Feeken I was inspired to make today’s collection of projects after I pulled out the new Silent Night Make a Scene die set and realized I had forgotten to order the Make a Scene Card Base set. Doh! I hate when I do something like that. It happens to me all the time. It’s okay though, because I was able to stretch my imagination to create more than just wintery Christmas cards as this set was intended. I managed to squeak out three different cards for three different holidays. Now I love this collection even more than before! As you can see, the base formula or “recipe” as I like to call it, is exactly the same for each card. You don’t have to have an entirely different layout for each project, especially this time of year when you really want to make and post them out as fast as you can before Christmas finally comes.

Spooky Greetings Card

Since Halloween is the next major holiday coming up on my crafty calendar, I decided to first turn the sweet little snow village into a spooky haunted town backlit by a blood orange moon. To make this one extra spooky, I added a bat and sentiment from Open House Boo!

Welcome Home Card

For my second project, I skipped on down the calendar to Thanksgiving, and started thinking about all the families who travel home after being apart so long. Of course, you could also use this card for other times of the year as well. This is just where my mind went first. Since I wanted to create a warmer look for this card, I nixed the bat and black glitter cardstock and opted to cut the houses out of warm Portobello brown. I then backed them with loops of cream thread and vellum leaf sprigs cut from the Bouquet of Flowers die set to turn the cozy vibes up even more.

Merry Christmas Card

For my third project, I moved even further down the calendar to the mother of all cardmaking holidays… Christmas! At this point in my crafting session, I was drooling in anticipation of turning the houses into a gingerbread village. By changing my sentiment and a couple embellishments yet again, I had an entirely different holiday look in the bag. I swapped the thread and vellum leaves for holly and berries. (Pssst…I didn’t have red gems, so I just colored silver gems with a red alcohol marker). Then, I swapped the gold splattered houses for oozing royal icing on warm cinnamon gingerbread. Well… almost. It’s just a white gel pen, but I swear I can smell them. Yummm! (By the way, do not eat your craft supplies! Ha!)
