How to Build a Dimensional Scene with House-Mouse Stamps

Hello, crafty friends! It's Marie here again from Marie Nicole Designs. I have a tutorial for you today, featuring some of the most adorable House Mouse stamps! I want to show you how you can stamp an image, build a scene with it, and even add some fun dimension with some of the images! This little mouse juggling peanuts is the perfect image to try this on. Let’s get started!

Stamp and Color

Stamp out your image using a black ink that will not smear with whatever medium you choose to use. I am using watercolor brushes, so I need an ink that will stay in place even when water is introduced on it. I am using a black hybrid ink, which is usually safe for most coloring mediums. I am using the image of the mouse with the peanuts, but I also have several more images I stamped and colored. Stick around to the end of the post to see the finished cards for the additional images!

Stamp and Color Additional Peanuts

Stamp out the single peanut image that is included with this stamp set. I colored a good number of these single peanut images with the same colors I used on the large image. This way, they will all coordinate. Again, use the ink that will not smear!

Fussy Cut

Cut out the peanut images you just stamped and colored. It is sometimes helpful to have a small plate or dish nearby to put your tiny pieces in, so they don't get lost on your workspace!

Add Color and Pattern

Trim down the panel with your large image on it to a little shorter than your card base. This will allow you to add some fun paper or background behind it! I added a panel of striped patterned paper to the bottom later, and then trimmed the bottom of the stamped layer with a green piece of colored cardstock. You could also use patterned or colored cardstock, OR go ahead and create your own background by stamping or ink blending! I do love using up scraps, so sometimes grabbing some pieces out of my scrap bin is a fast way to recycle paper AND finish a card.

Stamp a Sentiment and Adhere

  Stamp the sentiment of your choice onto the top layer of your card. I again used the same black ink I used for my image. I want to stamp the sentiment first and then adhere the top layer to the base layer with foam. It’s easier to stamp before adhering!

Add To The Scene

Add foam dots to the back of the peanut images you stamped, colored, and cut out. Then, add them to your scene to create more interest and some dimension! I added the peanuts on top of the peanut images that the mouse was tossing into the air. This gives even more of an impression that our mouse is really juggling. I also added a few more peanuts scattered around the floor to fill out the scene just a little bit. There you have it! A simple way to let these cute images be the star focal point, but add a little extra dimension and interest. Don’t forget about your foam adhesive! It's so fun to add dimension. I kept the card designs mostly simple, with a little matting of colored cardstock, so that the cute images could be the focal point. Thanks for stopping by today!
