Painted Christmas Florals with Amaryllis Christmas

Hey there, crafty friends! Marie here again from Marie Nicole Designs with three cards featuring the new collection, Amaryllis Christmas. The florals in this collection are absolutely stunning! Amaryllis flowers can come in a variety of shades but since I’m going with a Christmas theme, I chose some bold reds and golds for my cards. This collection has 3D embossing folders, Better Press plates, layered stencils, sentiments, and of course, the Amaryllis die that cuts out all the pieces for the gorgeous eye-catching flower. For my first card, I ran the 3D Embossing folder through my Platinum 6 with the correct plates to press the design into some smooth white cardstock. I also gave just one or two mists of clean water onto my cardstock before embossing. You definitely don’t want your cardstock to be too wet, but adding a little moisture will help the cardstock mold to the design better during embossing. I decided to use some watercolors on these cards. I am not using watercolor cardstock, but I did choose a thick, smooth cardstock. I also didn’t use too much water with my colors. The color I painted on was of a thicker consistency and gives a bolder look than loose watercolor. I added the first layer of color- a bright red- and then after that was dry I came back and added shadows with a darker red. There wasn’t much green to add, just a few stems here and there, so I didn’t add any shading to those. But my favorite part about painting these flowers was adding the gold to the flower middles and splattering the gold across the bold red flowers. Then I added the sentiment that pressed with the Better Press and cut out with the coordinating dies.   My second card is similar to my first in that I used the 3D embossing folder again and watercolors. This time, however, I painted only a few flowers and left the others in the background. This way, you can choose to highlight just a few blooms if you don’t care to color all of them. I also added the gold splatters and the Better Press sentiments to this card. To add a little bit extra to this card, I cut a few narrow strips of glitter cardstock and adhered it to the bottom corner of the card. Can never have too much glitter, especially for Christmas. My last card for today’s post is a similar style to my first two cards. I didn’t use the 3D embossing folder but I did use the same watercolors in the same color scheme. I also added details like the strips of glitter cardstock so my cards would coordinate to look like a set. If you like to create card sets to bundle and give as gifts, coordinating styles and colors is a great way to do that! My flower on this card is cut out from the Amaryllis die set. You can cut out the shadow background, which I did here in white, and you can also cut out the outline for the flower which leaves you with the actual flower pieces. These I colored with the same reds, and then I puzzle-pieced it all together with liquid glue, using the shadow background to hold all the pieces together. Then I added the flowers to the background with a mixture of liquid and foam adhesive. I added the gold splatters, and the gold strips of glitter cardstock to the side. Of course, I added the Better Press sentiment to finish it off.
