Hello, crafty friends! I’m Adrienne Boese, better known as Alice Scraps Wonderland online. I’m so excited to be sharing some new card ideas with you today using a little color theory and the beautiful Bayfair collection Card Making Kit.
Color theory is an easy way to create gorgeous, cohesive color palettes. And the Bayfair collection makes it even easier because it already follows color theory! So today, I’ll be showing you how to make 3 cards using 3 different color theory combinations.
Tip: When tearing your paper, hold one side down on your work surface with the palm of your hand. Hold the other side with your other hand and slowly tear the paper (slow means more control). You’ll see that what you are left with is a white raw edge on the side you were holding down!
Tip: For the best results using Triadic color schemes, pick which of the 3 colors will be your main color. This will be the color you use the most of (for mine, it was blue). Then choose your secondary color, which you will use slightly less of (pink in my card). For the final color, use this one sparingly, treating it as an accent or pop of color (green in my card).
Tip: When I use color theory, I don’t include neutrals (black, white, brown, grey, etc.) in my count of colors. These neutrals, especially white and black, can provide a nice blank canvas to allow the other colors to pop and play together nicely with one another.

Complimentary: Seashells Fun Card
This first card makes use of the Complimentary color scheme—this uses 2 colors that are on opposite sides of the color wheel. In this case, I’m using blue and yellow.- Trim the Bayfair gold and white geometric patterned paper to 5.25 by 4 inches and adhere to a white A2 card.
- Tear a strip of the blue and white dragonfly patterned paper, trim it to 5.25 inches and adhere to the geometric patterned paper.
- Die cut several of the Nested Postage Labels and Tags, as well as the numbers 1 and 2 from the Postage Numbers die, using white, blue and yellow cardstocks.
- Adhere your layers together using a mix foam adhesive and your favorite liquid adhesive or glue runner.
- Pop on the blue and yellow seashells from the Bayfair Ephemera pack.
- Add a Bayfair Button and Puffy Sticker plus a few Silver Color Essential Gems.

Triadic: Whale Hello Card
This second card uses the Triadic color scheme, which uses 3 colors that are evenly spaced on the color wheel. The colors for this card are pink, green, and blue.- Die cut out the Bayfair blue floral patterned paper with the Nestabilities Hemstitch Rectangle that will cover most of an A2 card base, then glue it to some blue cardstock.
- Die cut the pink and white stripe paper and some white cardstock using one of the Nested Postage Labels and Tags. Glue these two layers together then add it to your card front with some foam adhesive.
- Pop on the whale and the 2 blue and white leaf sprigs from the Bayfair Ephemera pack.
- Die cut a few pieces from the Floral Spray die in pink and green, glue the layers together, and add them over the whale.
- Tie a bit of twine around the “hello” Bayfair chipboard sticker, adding it and the “one of a kind” chipboard sticker.
- Pop on a few of the Two-Tone Pink Dimensional Dots.
Tip: For the best results using Triadic color schemes, pick which of the 3 colors will be your main color. This will be the color you use the most of (for mine, it was blue). Tetradic Floral Celebrate Card
The final card uses the Tetradic color scheme. Like Triadic, these colors are also evenly spaced around the color wheel, except it uses 4 colors instead of 3.- Trim a piece of green cardstock to 5.25 by 4 inches and the Bayfair green and white stripe paper to 5 by 3.75 inches and adhere to a white A2 card. Adhere these two layers together, then glue them to an A2 white card base.
- Create a frame using the Nested Postage Labels and Tags, cutting it from white cardstock.
- Trim a piece of the tiny dot pattern to fit behind the window of the frame. Adhere it to some white cardstock of the same size.
- Adhere the white frame to the dot patterned paper using 2mm thick foam adhesive Then use 1mm thick foam adhesive to adhere the frame with the backing paper to your card base.
- Die-cut your Floral Spray pieces from pink, blue, yellow and green cardstocks. Glue the layers together and arrange your flowers and leaves in your frame to your liking, using a mix of liquid adhesive and foam adhesive.
- Use some of the Green Mix Color Essential Gems for your flower centers to add some sparkle.
- Pop on the gold “celebrate” script from the Bayfair Puffy Stickers.
