Step-By-Step Tutorial - Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow

Hello there, friends! It’s Lisa Tilson here with you today on the Spellbinders blog. I’m so excited to be here to share a step-by-step tutorial using a set from the new release from Simon Hurley called North Pole Friends. I think this might be my favourite release from Simon so far! I love Christmas crafting, and Simon has released four die sets in this collection that are simply adorable. You have the set I am using today which is called North Pole Sentiments Etched Dies, and then you have a set featuring the Clauses, one featuring some adorable polar bears, and finally a set with Santa’s cheeky elves! I had a hard time deciding which set to use for my step-by-step tutorial today, but let’s get started on the card.

Let It Snow

So, we are going to kick off by creating one of the two snowmen that feature on my card.

1. I began by taking the North Pole Sentiments Etched Dies and taking the four dies needed to create the snowman. I will be die cutting them from Raven, Acorn, Classic White, Bellini, and Saffron.

2. Tape the dies to their respective pieces of card using Best Ever Craft Tape. In the picture above, I am die cutting the nose from Saffron, but I will run this die through my machine again with some Bellini card This tiny die cuts both the carrot nose and the cheeks.

Using the Platinum 6 Die Cutting Machine, my sandwich is, from bottom to top: Platform Base Platform Top Cutting Place C Cardstock/dies Cutting Plate C

3. This is what you’ll end up with, and you now need to repeat the steps for the second snowman.

4. Flip your snowman over and add some glue around his eyes/mouth and buttons. This is where you will adhere your two black die cuts. I love that you can just use a larger piece of card and pop it behind the openings to create these parts of the snowman quickly and with minimal effort!

5. Place the pieces down and let them dry.

6. Adhere your cheeks and nose using Bearly Art Glue, and then put a dab of glue on the front side of each of the twig circles. Place your snowman down on top of each twig and let it dry. Just repeat the process for your second snowman. They are quick to make!

7. We are now going to work on the clothing! For the first snowman, I am using Peridot, Rainforest, Mulberry, and Violet ColorWheel Cardstock. The hat will be cut from both the light and dark green cardstock, and the scarf is cut from Mulberry. The mittens are going to be die-cut from Violet.

8. The mittens now need to be die-cut again, but this time from Mulberry. This will be for the mitten trim.

9. Adhere the main part of the hat to the top of the snowman. You will see some lines on the snowman die cut, which will help you line up the hat.

10. Now adhere the hat trim and bobble. Again, you will see that there are lines to guide you with placement.

11. Now you can go ahead and adhere your scarf using wet adhesive.

12. Using tiny dabs of glue on the twigs, attach both of your mittens with the thumbs pointing up. Aren’t these snowmen just adorable!

13. Now adhere the mitten trims to complete the clothing.

You can now go ahead and make your second snowman. For this one, I used Orchid, Mulberry, Waterfall, and Teal Topaz for his attire.

14. Your two snowmen are now complete! Lots of fun to be had changing up the colours here! You can also throw in some glitter cardstock just for a bit of extra sparkle. You could ink blend the die cuts to show a bit more dimension. There are many ways you can add detail to them. Maybe some black gems for their coal buttons and eyes? Some glitter glue on the muffin and hat trims. Just have fun with them!

15. There are a whole bunch of different festive sentiments included in North Pole Sentiments Etched Dies, and I am using just the one on my card. I have die-cut it once and will die-cut it again so that I can stack two together.

16. Once I had die cut the second, I adhered both sentiments together to form a small stack and to give the sentiment extra stability on my finished panel.

17. For my background, I am using one of my all-time favourite embossing folders! This is the Flurry of Snowflakes 3D Embossing Folder, and I am going to emboss it with some Seaside ColorWheel Cardstock.

I popped the A2 panel of Seaside Cardstock into the folder and ran it through my Platinum 6 using the following sandwich (bottom to top): Platform Base 3D Embossing Folder/Cardstock Adaptor Plate D

18. Isn’t that just a beautiful result? The 3D folders give you such an amazing impression. If you don’t want such a deep impression on your project, use the debossed side as the front. It’s a good way to get two different looks from your folders.

19. Add some glue onto the back of the embossed panel and adhere it to a top-folding A2 white note card (4.25” x 11”, scored at 5.5”)

20. Add foam tape onto the back of your first snowman.

21. Adhere it to your embossed panel.

22. Repeat with the second snowman. Mine overlaps my first, so I made sure that my foam tape was positioned to the right-hand side for the second snowman.

23. Add glue to the back of the sentiment and pop that underneath your snowmen.

24. Finish by adding some Crystal Mix Color Essential Gems to give the card a bit of sparkle. Et voila! You are finished!
