Stitched Card Tutorial | Spellbinders Live

Join Kim Kesti in the Creative Classroom as she creates hand-stitched beauties with the Merry Stitchmas collection. In this stitched card tutorial, you’ll quickly see that Merry Stitchmas is for much more than only Christmas! Although these dies released with our holiday collection, you’ll use these versatile dies far beyond the holidays for beautiful projects all year long. The Merry Stitchmas Collection includes 5 die sets that cut beautiful patterns of dots that act as a guide for stitching. We’ve also included an array of beautiful bundles of DMC threads and flosses in this collection, plus the perfect sized needles to add stitching to your handmade cards.

On today’s video (watch below or on our Youtube channel), Kim shows some of the thoughtful details to these die sets, including split rim outer dies for maximum versatility. She shows off two of the border dies, the Circular Stitch Slimline Strip (S4-1160), which cuts a border or background up to a slimline size, as well as the Diamond Stitch Dies (S2-319), which work similarly to add a border or background - and the split rim allows you to add a decorative edge to cards and crafts. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-kQqPuBgPs In today's stitched card tutorial, Kim creates with the Circular Stitch Background Dies (S5-490), which cuts out a stitch-able background that can be customized for any kind of card. Stitching brings out the beauty of these dies, but guess what? Many of these dies include embossed lines and details so they look gorgeous even without stitching. To complement this collection, Spellbinders has partnered with DMC to offer a variety of thread and floss bundles that are perfect for stitching. You’ll love the elegant Essential Metallics Diamant Thread Bundle (SCS-158) with shades of silvers and golds, plus the Essential Holiday Thread Bundle (SCS-159) with red, green, black and white threads. For today’s card, Kim uses shades from the Variegated Floss Bundle (SCS-157) which includes 18 variegated floss skeins. Watch the video to see how Kim easily separates two strands from a piece of floss. (Spellbinders recommends stitching with two of the six strands from this floss.) Kim shares some great tips for securing the floss to the back of her project: she uses a little dab of Bearly Art Craft Glue glue to hold the end in place, but a tiny piece of tape will also work. Kim recommends pulling the strands up from the middle of each circle. Then use the score lines to guide your stitches from the center to the edges. (Those embossed guidelines also add a beautiful detail if you decide not to add stitching to a project.) At the end of each circle, add another small dot of fast-drying glue or a sliver of tape to secure the edge of the thread.

After all the stitching is finished, Kim attaches her stitched panel to a sheet of Brushed Gold cardstock and adds a simple Glimmer sentiment. The beautiful colors and intricate pattern are the star of the show on this card, so Kim calls her stunning card complete!
